Elliot, King of the Brownies, wasn't usually a stubborn kid, but he didn't see a lot of room to bargain on the issue of Goblins eating his royal subjects. That's why he's holding Grissel, much to the dismay of Princess Fidget, Pixie Princess, who wants his release. Elliot naturally refuses until Grissel promises to stop eating the Brownies. Unfortunately, Elliot is informed that if he doesn't release Grissel, the Pixies will kill him.
Elliot and Fidget manage to bargain: The Pixies want the Fairies out of Glimmering Forest, and all they need to accomplish this is one hair from their worst enemy, the Demon Kovol.
Before Elliot knows it, his deal with the Pixies has landed him in hot water with the Fairies who kidnap the Brownie, Mr. Willimaker. They explain they will hold him captive until he also does something for the Fairies. They want a sock off the foot of the Demon Kovol.
So that's where Elliot winds up: alone in the underworld, with no map either back or ahead to Demon Territory. Trying to steal a hair for the Pixies and a sock for the Fairies. From a demon. Being King of the Brownies is no easy job!
