Publisher's Summary

Emily Climbs is the story of a young orphan growing up in New Moon Farm who has a passion for writing, a talent that has helped her cope with some of the more difficult times in her life. However, Emily is faced with a dilemma. Elizabeth, her aunt, wants her to promise to give up writing in exchange for being able to attend high school in the nearby town of Shrewsbury, the school which all of her friends are attending.

After refusing to stop her writings, the two come to a compromise which allows her to write, but only about factual events, and not fictional stories. Unknowingly, this helps Emily expand her writing skills and leads to some of her poems being published helping her to land a job writing for the local newspaper. Shortly thereafter, Emily is presented with an opportunity of a lifetime, but will she take it?

A wonderful story, but for the telling

The story is about a passionate, sensitive young girl as she moves from being a young girl to being a young woman. The choice to have an older British gentleman narrate this story is a mistake, really. The narration is fairly robotic, and doesn't have the emotion, timing, well-placed pauses, and gentle expression that befits this title. It feels almost as if the daily news would be narrated in much the same manner, and can become very tiresome to listen to after a while.

I'm sure that other titles are well-suited to this narrator, but this one is a miss.
