Publisher's Summary

The homicide cop with a passion for justice returns in the captivating crime thriller series by the #1 New York Times bestselling author.

It was a glittering event full of A-listers, hosted by Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, a celebrity couple who’d conquered both Hollywood and Broadway. And now Eve Dallas has made her entrance—but not as a guest. After raising a toast, Fitzhugh fell to the floor and died, with physical symptoms pointing to cyanide, and the police have crashed the party.

From all accounts, he wasn’t the kind of star who made enemies. Everyone loved him—even his ex-wife. And since the champagne cocktail that killed him was originally intended for Eliza, it’s possible she was the real target, with a recently fired assistant, a bitter rival, and an obsessed fan in the picture. With so many attendees, staff, and servers, Eve has her work cut out determining who committed murder in the middle of the crowd—and what was their motivation. As one who’s not fond of the spotlight herself, she dreads the media circus surrounding a case like this. All she wants is to figure out who’s truly innocent, and who’s only acting that way…

Delightful!

Loved the development of Peabody. Laughed out loud several times with exchanges between Eve and Peabody. Great story and had me guessing right to the end if Eve would pull it off. Should have known better.

A great listen!

Some things I hear aren’t the way I interpret the characters or the current mood/situation, for inflection or resulting nuance, but I’ve come to love the characters Susan’s built on top of the writing from Nora Roberts. I always can’t wait for the next one!

Enjoyable Read

As a longtime fan of both Nora/JD and Susan, I was treated to another wonderful journey. I look forward to the next ones as I re-read the older ones. Keep going Nora!! What a talent!

Disappointed

I was disappointed with the hackneyed descriptions in the novel. JD Robb almost lost me with “sea green” and “Arctic blue” eyes in the first chapter.
The narration was plodding and Ericksen’s accents were very bad.
I can not recommend this listen.

Poor Irish accent

Unfortunately I was distracted by the poor Irish accent and I have heard better New York readers. That being said I’m glad JD Robb is on audible.

Another great read

JD Robb never lets me down. This series would make great TV. What actress would you like to see play Eve?

One of the Best in the Series

I really like how this one played out. Without spoilers, Roarke has less involvement, so it makes the whole thing feel more like a cop story. Love it!

New story

Part one was a bit boring, lag on and on……I love this series,Ihave from the beginning. But at times I find the stories are not written by JD Robb. If it is she is losing her luster, I don’t know if other people see it my way.She left out to many of her beloved characters that make up the series. I not only listen on audible but I also read the books and as a JD Robb fanatic..it hurts when you know the flow of how the author writes and you can tell it’s not the same author…some people may think I’m crazy…but if someone else out there feels the same please let me know. Either way + or - thanks for listening..SUSAN ERICKSON IS THE BEST NARRATOR ESP FOR THIS SERIES. TAKE CARE

Not her normal standard.

I actually stopped the book to confirm that it was being read by the same person as previous books. After a bit, it felt more on track.

For some reason, this wasn’t as good as previous books in the series. I have all of them and look forward to each new story. Hopefully, the next one will be back to the feel of previous books.

similar to others

I thought I was reading a rewrite of parts of Reunion in Death & Celebrity in Death. Maybe time to retire Eve into motherhood.

One of her best

After listening to the first few chapters, I was so confused because there are many characters. So I downloaded the e-book and read it. I recommend reading the book before enjoying the audio.

What's with all the negative reviews?

I've been reading this series since the 1st book came out in paperback. Didn't know NR was JD Robb. My expectation are for a good ,interesting read. Do I love all the stories, no some are much better than others. Same can be said for other writers as well. My point is some people expect too much, perfection and these are stories written from someone's thoughts and imagination. They're written to entertain, and they do. My only real complain is she recycles names too often, Marta has been uses at least 3 times lol. And Fitzhugh was a victim once before as well. Other than that the story did what I asked, it entertained. This isn't brain surgery folks it's a story.

Not my favorite

I have read and listened to every book in this series. There are many I know what the next words are I have listened to them so many times. I must say this is not one of those. I find that this book and Abandoned in Death are just not my cup of tea, which is a huge disappointment as I generally read or listen to the books hours after the release. I’m hoping the the next book gets things back on track. I love this series!

Re-run (thus Encore)

I have read and re-read all the "In Death" books many times and while most are entertaining and interesting some are downright terrific! Encore is not one of those in my opinion. Susan Ericksen is, in my view, the best narrator EVER. The book itself is predictable from chapter 1 and missing the sub stories I love ie. Mavis and family, the new house (it has been long enough it should be completed), Peabody/McNabb and of course Roark (Sigh). Maybe there should be a reader contest where the best plot suggestion wins an expense paid trip to an off planet resort or perhaps an autographed copy of the suggested book. Anyway, bottom line is there will never be an "In Death" book that I don't read, period. I just couldn't put it in the terrific category.

Love this series

I have been listening to this series since the beginning. I wasn’t feeling this one, it lacked substance. It also lacked the enthusiasm of the narrator. The story line fell flat all the way around. JD Robb is a fantastic story teller. I love this series but this wasn’t exciting it was rather boring.
