Publisher's Summary

Roswell was only the beginning! An in-depth look at the Rendlesham Forest UFO incident, the world's most sensational and compelling series of UFO encounters.

In 1980, a UFO was tracked on military radar in Rendlesham Forest, England. It landed near two of the most strategically important military bases in NATO, and was approached by military witnesses who touched the hull. This explosive new book tells the full story of this incident, which is set to become better-known than Roswell.

Written by Nick Pope, an international best-selling author and former government UFO investigator, working closely with John Burroughs and Jim Penniston, the two officers at the heart of the encounters, Encounter in Rendlesham Forest reveals the first-hand witnesses' full stories for the first time and is supported by numerous formerly-classified documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act. The inside story of these events and their aftermath will change people's perceptions about UFOs and about the true role played by government, the military and the intelligence agencies.

Informative - If Annoyingly Drawn Out

Nick Pope dives deep into the early morning events of December 26, 1980 (and a recurrence on Dec. 27) on the grounds between RAF & USAF (NATO) bases in Suffolk, England. Pope punctiliously documents the evidence (eyewitness testimony, on-the-ground forensics, radar records, etc.) for a briefly landed spacecraft - and reviews hypotheses and alternate explanations - discussing them exhaustively one by one. Pope also elaborates on allegations of "cover-up", explores the role of Media and UFOlogist organizations in the spread of the story, and goes into mathematical arguments for the existence of extraterrestrial life (i.e. the Drake Equation), the Fermi Paradox ("If the universe is teeming with life, why haven't we seen them?"), Panspermia & Annunaki theories, dozens of other well-known encounters, and even the physics of hypothetical interstellar travel - as background. The book is organized logically, written capably, and strikingly complete (every conceivable angle is covered).
Unfortunately, the book is *incredibly* involved (trying to cover waaaaay too much ground) - an aggressive editor could have easily cut the book in half without really losing anything. Mr. Pope clearly loves the sound of his own voice.

Fortunately for Audiobook afficianados: the Upfront Books decision to enlist Roy McCrerey to read the book was sheer genius. Mr. McCrerey exhibits professional diction, a cadence & timbre comfortable for hours of listening, and an unwavering interested tone (despite the often pedantic text).. but genuinely shines with his flawless shift from British to American accents and back again when reading quotes. This recording is outstanding.

Altogether, I rate 'Encounter In Rendlesham Forest' 5.5 stars out of 10. If you can get it as a 'Plus' selection, it's an information-packed argument for the existence of Alien Life that could easily provoke some thought in readers unversed in the UFOlogy literature. Frustratingly, this one opens with "Here is the evidence, I leave it up to you to decide".. but then dumps so many diverse lines of argument that it feels like the author is mocking you if you have reservations. If Audible asks for a Credit, you can find less verbose, pretentious-sounding "Aliens Exist" treatises for your money.
