Publisher's Summary

Boston beat cop Aspen Wolfe gets the surprise of her life when she learns she’s a shapeshifter. Her abilities awaken as a ruthless regime unleashes its troops to eradicate the shapeshifter population.

Forced to run or be hunted, Aspen meets Dr. Tora Madigan - a beautiful and resourceful shapeshifter who oversees an underground sanctuary. Her attraction to Tora is a welcome distraction, but the fierce lioness plays hard to get.

Together, they discover that Aspen is a powerful shapeshifter thought to be extinct. Her existence gives shapeshifters everywhere a fighting chance. But there’s one small problem: She doesn’t even know how to shift. With no one else up for the job, Tora agrees to train her.

Aspen soon finds herself leading a group of extraordinary shapeshifters who are willing to risk everything to save their species. When the sanctuary is targeted for annihilation, she must come up with a game plan. Fast.

Ehhh

Listen, I wouldn't want to call this a bad book, because it might just not be to my tastes, but I really kinda have never felt so disappointed with an entire book before. Like damn, it's one thing to have a big cast of characters, which Pope did a pretty good job distinguishing amongst them, but it's another to have so many people who are 'special', you know? There was just too much the author covered with each of them that I didn't really form any sort of emotional connection to any of them. Not even the 'main' characters. The entire story things felt waaaayyy to convenient with how the characters always just magically knew what to do because of 'instinct' which at least is an explanation of sorts so it wasn't the worst thing in the world but geez, just a little too easy to get a grasp on magic powers that no one's ever really seen before. Another problem I had was that it felt like people died not because of circumstance, but just because SOMEONE had to die or none of this would be serious enough. None of it really felt meaningful and the ending, God I don't even want to talk about it. An entire book and you end like that with no touching on any of the other issues that are still looming. Okay. Yeah, REALLY not to my tastes.

wait for the next one if you really want to read i

I was kind of sort of starting to get into it when it ended. I've never been fond of abrupt endings. I started then stopped this Audible a few times. It was probably just me i had a really hard time connecting with it.

Great story but ends abruptly

Please tell me this is just book one and there will be sequels. The story flows along nicely with great narration but it seems like the story ends really abruptly without resolving several major questions. *spoilers follow* Several times characters warn Aspen that the first time she mates will be rather unusual but we never get any more info or experience. Another issue: the rescued gets brought back and we get no follow up or even an introduction to them. And the book ends mid-battle! There has got to be a book 2 coming. We need resolution. If so, then this book was well worth the credit.
