Publisher's Summary

Endgame, the explosive book from longtime royal journalist Omid Scobie and author of the international blockbuster Finding Freedom, is a penetrating investigation into the current state of the British monarchy—an unpopular king, a power-hungry heir to the throne, a queen willing to go to dangerous lengths to preserve her image, and a prince forced to start a new life after being betrayed by his own family.

Queen Elizabeth II’s death ruptured the already-fractured foundations of the House of Windsor—and dismantled the protective shield around it. With an institution long plagued by antiquated ideas around race, class and money, the monarchy and those who prop it up are now exposed and at odds with a rapidly modernizing world. Relying on his vast experience as a royal reporter and over a decade of conversations and interviews with current and former Palace staff, trusted friends of the royals and even the family members themselves, Scobie pulls back the curtain on an institution in turmoil to show what the monarchy must change in order to survive.

This is the monarchy’s endgame. Do they have what it takes to save it?

Same old story

A few minor new things but it’s all the same old story. Nothing we really don’t know before.

Excellent writing, well researched, thoughtful conclusions.

I especially liked the fair coverage of the Sussexes and their predicament. But the book was about was so much more than that.

Monarchy and the future

The author connected the dots providing more context for a number of stories that unfolded during the past few years, while asking pertinent questions about the future of the institution.

Glad to read and make up my own mind

Interesting to get this point of view especially chapter 13 - glad to make up my own mind. Narration annoying when sometimes ending a sentence that is to soft to hear that I’d have to rewind to catch what he says in then end

Scobie disdain for the monarchy and his pro Meghan and Harry voice.

Scobie did nothing but pick holes in the monarchy and the institution. Some of his information could only have come from Harry and Meghan although he denied it. Nothing he said was new, nor was it always believable and appeared assumptive and speculative at best. He’s bitter and retaliatory for being brought to task, and I have no respect for him. My regret is that I spent money to read it.

So much more than just Meghan and Harry

This is a fantastic book about the Royal family and what has been playing out in the last few years as well as historically over hundreds of years. It is very well written and easy to listen to the author's voice who has been reporting on the RF for more than a decade.

As Omid has years of working with the Royal rota and has spent so much time with this royal family and their handlers he really knows how the institution works.

Ignore all the Meghan and Harry bashing in the media about them being involved as it is made very clear that they were not. Omid dives into so much more than them and they are just small blip in the book.

The RF have far bigger issues regarding making amends with the slave trade they haven't apologized or the sick backstabbing way they treat each other with the media being their weapon. This book goes into lots of behind the scenes and gives us readers a glimpse of how cruel and dysfunctional they ( individuals as well as their offices) really are.

After reading this book I will be watching to see how the RF acknowledges their colonial past as well as their accountability moving forward. The time of mystery, smoke and mirrors is over!

Awesome book! Loved it 🙂
