Publisher's Summary

The number one New York Times best-selling series that started with Stalking Jack the Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula continues in this third bloody installment! A luxurious ocean liner becomes a floating prison of madness and horror when passengers are murdered one by one...with nowhere to run from the killer.

Audrey Rose Wadsworth and her partner-in-crime-investigation, Thomas Cresswell, are en route to New York to help solve another blood-soaked mystery. Embarking on a week-long voyage across the Atlantic on the opulent RMS Etruria, they're delighted to discover a traveling troupe of circus performers, fortune tellers, and a certain charismatic young escape artist entertaining the first-class passengers nightly.

But then, privileged young women begin to go missing without explanation, and a series of brutal slayings shocks the entire ship. The disturbing influence of the Moonlight Carnival pervades the decks as the murders grow ever more freakish, with nowhere to escape except the unforgiving sea.

It's up to Audrey Rose and Thomas to piece together the gruesome investigation as even more passengers die before reaching their destination. But with clues to the next victim pointing to someone she loves, can Audrey Rose unravel the mystery before the killer's horrifying finale?

What the critics say

"Audrey Rose is a witty, resourceful feminist who refuses to bow to Victorian-era gender norms. This dark, gothic landscape is peopled with nuanced, diverse characters who keep readers enthralled. A gripping mystery with a compelling heroine and just the right touch of romance." (Kirkus)

"Displaying her usual fierce determination and progressive ideals, Audrey Rose is once again a compelling protagonist. Another delightfully mysterious addition to the series." (School Library Journal)

"Maniscalco's winning combinations of historical fiction, romance, forensics, and a feisty heroine will attract historical-fiction and romance readers.... Well-placed hooks advance the plot and sustain the swift pace." (Booklist)

Immensely disappointed

I have been stuck like glue since the beginning of the first chapter of book one, Until now that is the characters have become stale in my opinion. I am hoping that in book four she can spices things up a bit brunt Thomas and Audrey have become stale. Was not impressed with the ending either. I believe Carrie is it amazing author and have thoroughly enjoyed her work thus far, don’t get me wrong there were good points in the story and some plot twist but nothing like The first two books this one was highly predictable.

A Disappointing Third Installment

I cant believe this is the same author and characters. The plot was boring, except for the murders. All, and I mean all the characters got on my nerves! I was just waiting for the end. Which the ending was FANTASTIC! But it wasn’t enough to pull the rest of the book. I’m still very excited and hopeful for the next book.

Ok

Though not as good as previous books it is ok. The story is spoiled if you know anything about Harry Houdini life.

Am I biased?

I did not enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed The other 2 and I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe I'm biased against carnivals? And I know I hate this part of story lines where the couple suddenly have a 3rd part enter and the relationship is questioned. But this book just had an over all different feel to it. I found myself hating almost every decision that Audrey rose made, and pitying poor Thomas for having to deal with all that and still remaining a gentleman. I also thought there were several key clues that were ignored through the book when they shouldn't have been.

Also, did Liza lose her finger or not????

Read anyway

It's a great story but the writing is weak, read anyway. Good for book club.

I loved it!

I've enjoyed all of Kerri Maniscalco's books in the Ripper series, this is no different! Almost threw my phone at the last chapter, but the ending was perfect!

Still love

This book takes you on a magical adventure of an awe inspiring circus on the sea's! I could image myself actually there watching the show unfold. I actually do wish I was there(and we had performances like this now). This book was so imaginative and beautiful I only wish the author made more books with this much beauty.
