Story
For thousands of years, scientists, philosophers, and self-help gurus have wrestled with one of the basic conundrums of human life: Why do we do the things we do? Or, rather, why do we so often not do the things we want to do? In You're a Miracle (and a Pain in the Ass), McHargue addresses these issues. We like to think we’re in control of our thoughts and decisions, he writes, but science has shown that a host of competing impulses, emotions, and environmental factors are at play in every action we undertake.

Story
Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance.

Selective use of scripture - by preachers and politicians alike - has been employed to justify violence, racism, misogyny, homophobia...the list goes on. Still, we believe the Bible has something important to say. How can we read it in a contemplative and intelligent way? In What Do We Do with the Bible?, Richard Rohr answers just this question. He offers a methodology of hermeneutics (interpretation) that creates a foundation for a hopeful and cosmic vision - incarnation from beginning to end of time. (He explores this vision further in The Universal Christ).

Wintering explores how she not only endured this painful time, but embraced the singular opportunities it offered. Ultimately Wintering invites us to change how we relate to our own fallow times.

Story
Franciscan priest Richard Rohr feels that there is no more challenging spiritual issue than the “problem of the self". Most of contemporary spiritual teaching, he believes, is still trying to inspire and fortify the private self, the autonomous "I". Even much church work is trying to evangelize and sacramentalize what many would call "the false self." Basic transformation is not expected, but merely a new set of beliefs and practices or loyal membership in a new group.

Publisher's Summary
This program is read by the author.
From Rob Bell, the New York Times best-selling author of Love Wins
This audiobook is an invitation to see your life in a new way. Because we each have a story we're telling - about who and where we come from, what we've been through, and what it all means - or doesn't mean. These stories we tell can easily feel disjointed and fragmented, like an endless series of events are happening to us without any particular coherence or point. Just, you know, life. But for thousands of years there's been another way of understanding this experience we're all having here, one that goes directly to the heart of those age-old questions: Who are we? And what are we doing here? And what does it all mean?
In this compelling and surprisingly subversive memoir, Rob shows us this ancient wisdom, taking us through his history and the history of the universe to show us something about our histories - how all of it matters, how everything we've been through forms a connected whole, and how it's all been headed somewhere the whole time.
From the farthest reaches of the universe to the smallest cells in our bodies, Rob invites us to see that there's something more going on here, something bringing us together and guiding us into greater and greater wonder and awe at our own existence, showing us how this world we call home is way more dynamic and mysterious and meaningful than we ever realized.
If you've every found yourself thinking, "There's got to be me more than this", this audiobook is for you. Can your life get more fascinating, more meaningful, filled with more and more possibilities surprising you year after year after year? This book says yes. Because everything is spiritual.

Awakens me to the flow that's within us all
Rob Bell said in a RobCast episode that he is a seven on the Enneagram. A seven is often called "The Enthusiast". The Audible version of this book read by Bell himself affirms that "seven". But it's not a superficial, rah rah kind of enthusiasm. He owns his material from deep within himself--combining an amazing level of self awareness in analyzing his journey through life with a multilevel understanding of the stories and messages from Old and New Testaments. Disclaimmer: Rob Bell revived and deepened my faith in 2011 with his book Love Wins. I have since attended six of his live events, each time finding myself emersed in the flow of spirit that permeated the room. Listening to this book reignited that experience.

Velvet Rob
I'm not even finished but Rob, you're speaking to me! You have me wanting to hunt down some tapes of The Gadflies and "_"Ton Bundle. Your words about your bride resonates with the truth of love. There are deep words that greatly inspire and felt like my own and others that greatly challenged me, but at least made me hear the question and consider my answer (the challenge of any author/pastor/leader/friend). One word sticks. Gift. Received and extended. 1 star as a reminder not to be concerned with the approval of man. But yes, recommend this read/listen!

Amazing as usual
Rob reads his own work, which is like listening to him give a series of talks. He doesn’t take himself too seriously- and because of his writing style, it doesn’t seem like he is reading. It’s a brilliant encapsulation of many of his ideas- also good for those who have never heard of him (gift worthy).

Don’t miss this story...
Don’t stop reading when it gets hard to swallow. Don’t stop reading when it shatters your way of thinking. Don’t stop reading when you are forced to ask the questions you’ve always had inside and yet kept them there. If you read to the end, I think, you will have to force yourself to allow things to happen within that have been suppressed by what you’ve been taught your whole life...and thus the world just got bigger. Thank you Rob Bell
