À propos de cet audio

Instant #1 New York Times bestseller! • #1 Washington Post bestseller! • #1 Indie Bestseller! • USA Today Bestseller!

John Green, acclaimed author and passionate advocate for global healthcare reform, tells a deeply human story illuminating the fight against the world’s deadliest infectious disease.

“The real magic of Green’s writing is the deeply considerate, human touch that goes into every word.”–The Associated Press

″Told with the intelligence, wit, and tragedy that have become hallmarks of the author’s work.... This is the story of us.”–Slate

“Earnest and empathetic.”–The New York Times

Tuberculosis has been entwined with humanity for millennia. Once romanticized as a malady of poets, today tuberculosis is seen as a disease of poverty that walks the trails of injustice and inequity we blazed for it.

In 2019, author John Green met Henry Reider, a young tuberculosis patient at Lakka Government Hospital in Sierra Leone. John became fast friends with Henry, a boy with spindly legs and a big, goofy smile. In the years since that first visit to Lakka, Green has become a vocal advocate for increased access to treatment and wider awareness of the healthcare inequities that allow this curable, preventable infectious disease to also be the deadliest, killing over a million people every year.

In Everything Is Tuberculosis, John tells Henry’s story, woven through with the scientific and social histories of how tuberculosis has shaped our world—and how our choices will shape the future of tuberculosis.

Ce que les critiques en disent

Green uses the stories of real people to turn overwhelming problems into something personal and understandable.”–The Associated Press

Everything Is Tuberculosis doesn’t so much tell you the story of tuberculosis, as much as it gently holds your hand and parts the curtains into one of the darkest, most bizarre, and frustrating series of decisions in world history with the other.. A quintessential John Green book: one that grapples with the issue of mortality and our conflicting desires to both help and hurt one another, all within the backdrop of the coming of age of a young man.”–Slate

“Henry’s story is hopeful and heartbreaking; readers will be rooting for him and his family the whole way through.”–SLJ, starred review

I love it when authors narrate their books. Thanks John! The marketing worked. I bought the book to see how everything is connected to tuberculosis. You are correct.

Tragically enlightening

John Green tells the story of tuberculosis by telling us a story about the world, and tells us a story about the world by telling us about tuberculosis.

A heart wrenching, hopeful, and accessible read

I was at first a bit concerned about the title and if this book would be for me. About an hour in, I could not stop listening. This was a wonderful, entertaining, moving book. You will learn so much.

Don’t be deterred by the title!

John's style makes this book -- heavy at time, at others downright depressing -- somehow enjoyable. I'm too young (most everyone in the developed world is) to have an idea of what a society familiar with the regular struggle of TB is. However, John shows us the lingering anachronisms, and the modern influences. And he shows us a world that should not exist, here only by our societies failure to respond. That's not the world I want to live in, and reminds me of the depression that accompanies caring about the environment, and fighting for real changes we could be making if we cared.
I would 100% recommend this book, even if you don't care about the topic. It's short, cleverly written, and worth pondering

Worth Reflection

John Green wrote a book about something incredibly devastating in a very understandable and moving way. Everything is Tuberculosis will convince you that everything IS tuberculosis and why that matters. This is an excellent read and I highly recommend it. Polo.

Heartbreaking and empowering

This book will stay with me for a long time - especially with John's voice in my head

Incredible. Where hope and despair come together.

It started off strong. I was captivated for the first few chapters. And then, it got boring. And stayed boring. But many of my friends are loving this book, so maybe I was the wrong audience? Not surprising that John Green is a podcaster, because he has a great pace and tone that I could listen to for hours.
