About the host

Sophie Nélisse is a Genie Award-winning Canadian actress. She can currently be seen in the Emmy-nominated Showtime series Yellowjackets as teenage Shauna Shipman. Sophie has also had lead roles in Irena’s Vow, The Rest of Us, 1:54, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, Close, Monsieur Lazhar (for which she won a Genie Award), and is perhaps best known for her role as Liesel Meminger in the film adaptation of the best-selling novel The Book Thief, written by Markus Zusak. Her other credits include Pawn Sacrifice, Mean Dreams, The History of Love, The Great Gilly Hopkins, Wait Till Helen Comes, and Et au pire on se mariera.

About the writer

Sophie Elmhirst is a writer based in London. She writes regularly for the Guardian Long Read and the Economist's 1843 Magazine, and is a contributing editor at Harper's Bazaar and The Gentlewoman. She was named Feature Writer of the Year at the British Press Awards in 2020 and has also won a Foreign Press Association award. Her first book, Maurice and Maralyn: a whale, a shipwreck, a love story, will be published by Chatto and Windus in February 2024.
