Publisher's Summary
The “Prey” novels by Pulitzer prize-winning journalist John Sandford consistently make the best seller lists, but they are not for the faint of heart. Featuring Minneapolis Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, these thrillers are raw, graphic, and impossible to put down. In Eyes of Prey, a depressed and unfocused Davenport takes on a macabre case, tracking down a serial killer who maims the eyes of his victims after he has murdered them.

Great story!
Richard Ferrone does an excellent job of setting the scene of a gravelly voiced cop who sometimes colours outside the lines. He conveys an ominous overtone to the story which blends well with Sandford's writing.
Definitely stronger than Shadow Prey and more in tune with Birds of Prey in terms of seeing into the minds of each character.

One of Sandford's Best
If you could sum up Eyes of Prey in three words, what would they be?
Chilling, Captivating, Intoxicating
What was one of the most memorable moments of Eyes of Prey?
The book was loaded with memorable moments. The name of "Bekker" will always bring a shudder.
What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?
Ferrone is the perfect Davenport! He gives an articulate and stimulating read.
Any additional comments?
This was my first Sandford read. It scared me to death and I loved it! I am working my way through all his books now, but this remains vivid in my mind.

Lucas Davenport, #1 reason to move to Minnesota!
Where does Eyes of Prey rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Easily top 2 or 3. Lucas Davenport, John Corey & Jack Reacher are always 1-2-3!
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Edge of my seat ... and standing up! Clever, convoluted plot ... strangers on a train ... and WHO is Loverboy?!
What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?
Richard Ferrone IS the voice of Lucas Davenport. I think he must enjoy reading them as much as we enjoy listening.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Lucas hanging on to all he holds dear ... while his guns are calling him from the basement.
Any additional comments?
This is a tremendous series that everyone should add to their wish lists.

Good read
I personally love books that just grab you from the 1st moment you pick them up, but unfortunately this book didn't do that to me. It was around the last 3 chapters that I got hooked and couldn't wait to see what happens. I'm going to continue to read this series because I don't like to leave a series unfinished if I can help it, but hopefully the rest of the series is epic :)

I'm late getting to this 1991 Sandford novel
I really hope that Minnesota does not have as many serial killers as Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers have to find in John Sandford novels. Of course Flowers did not arrive on the scene until Davenport was 18 years into his law enforcement career and worked with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. This excellent detective novel was just police lieutenant Lucas Davenport and his team. It is about the time of this third Sandford novel that the reader understands that the author is working off a consistent recipe in writing these novels. He alters the content and the way suspense and action build. He also does a nice job of character development with Lucas Davenport. Davenport in likable, but has some rather bad character flaws.

Eyes are all Telling
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Most definitely. John Sandford's, Eyes of Prey, is a wonderful listen. The way he writes is awesome. His character's all have their place in his novel's. Look at the blue eye on the cover and you can't resist reading this book. They say the cover of a book tells how good the book will be. I am one to look at the cover and make a judgment about reading a book but I also read the plot and reviews, too. However, ALL of John Sandford's books are excellent, even if the cover isn't to my liking.
What did you like best about this story?
The story made me want to keep listening until the end.
Which character – as performed by Richard Ferrone – was your favorite?
The man, Lucas Davenport.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I would get a smirk on my face at times, a little giggle once in awhile. However, I would sit, listen and become quite unglued and wonder how an author could create such evil people. But I buy all of his books and listen very intently. I don't want to be disturbed, either. If I had the time, I would read the book all in one sitting. Purchase every book in the series, there hasn't been one I didn't enjoy.
Any additional comments?
I have purchased most of John Sandford's books. However, since audible now has complete series, there are a few that I haven't purchased. After writing this review, I am going to purchase the next book for full price. There were a few loose ends that need tied up now and not in 16 days when my credits come due.

Fantastic
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Im a long time fan of Lucas Davenport and this is his Second or Third book in the series. The First few
Pages are kinda slow but he is laying a little foundation for what's to come. A few times
It spends a minute on the characters that will show up in later books.
This sets a plot and uses a few names you will hear in the next 20 books in the series.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It took a few pages to get completely hooked. Then I had the book in bed, bathroom, listening while driving . I'm really into audio books.
Which scene was your favorite?
The scene where the guy was buried in the woods, the re dug back up again was only one
Of the best scenes in the book, there were many. Then Lucas gets fired
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No , I try to stretch them out
Any additional comments?
I have listened To 2/3 of his books. Please keep righting and don't slow down.
I'm afraid I will run out of thing to read.
Write more Virgil Folwers books. I'm on #5 now. Lucas is Virgil's boss
But Virgil is a laid back country sh*t kicker the does things his way.
There all smart
Lucas and Virgil Kinda let you in there shoes, your there with then.

Darker than a black hole from which reader sucks.
The reader has one emotion...sinister-foreboding. He starts cranked full-up leaving nowhere to go. So Ferrone becomes irritating. It doesn't help that John Sandford's hero (?) Lucas Davenport is clinically depressed... a primed bomb. If you have an obsessive drive to wallow in depression or need a psychosis to balance out a life that's just going too well... Hey! This is your book.
So, why did I finish it? I'm too cheap. Once I pay for these things and invest a couple of hours I'm driven to get what I paid for. This time... I wish I'd just have stopped (almost did - twice). I'm thinking that Sandford, like his Davemport, has spent too much time thinking about obscenities. Pity, he is a good craftsman... But craft can't wipe away the sheen of dank, dark slime with which this exercise will stain your feelings.

Man What a book!
This definately is not a book for the faint hearted but I was fascinated non the less with all the mystery that went on non-ending. To me this is a kind of book that has it all. And I was amazed how the writer never ran out of intrguing ideas & kept building the story line until i was ready to scream "I give up." i thoroughly enjoyed this book & intend to read the whole series. Way to go.
