A mysterious inheritance draws orphaned teacher Darcy O’Sullivan to the eerie coastal town of Fairydale, where she becomes entangled in a deadly love triangle while facing an ancient evil that could destroy them all in this haunting and seductive blend of gothic horror and historical fantasy.

“I might be evil personified, but you’re the only one I’ll ever be good to.”

August 1955: When Miss Darcy O’Sullivan, an orphaned English teacher from Boston, receives a letter finding out that her biological father passed away, she is surprised to find herself included in his will. There is only one condition. She must travel to Fairydale to attend his funeral.

With the promise of a sizeable inheritance, Darcy decides to journey to the small coastal town that holds the secrets of her birth. But the moment she steps foot into Fairydale, things start to go amiss. There are odd rumors, odd deaths, and even odd men—especially brooding Caleb Hale—part of the infamous Hale family.

During the day, she falls deeper and deeper under Caleb’s spell as he forces her to step out of her comfort zone and embrace her inner sensuality. But at night, it’s another man who haunts her dreams—Amon d’Artan, a nobleman who lived two centuries ago. Amon is sweet and suave where Caleb is intense and dangerous. Soon, she finds herself embroiled in a web of lies, deceit, and inexplicable events that make her question her sanity. And when an ancient evil threatens the town and everything Darcy holds dear, she must make the ultimate choice. But will she survive it?

The story itself was fantastic, keeping me on the edge of my seat.

Unfortunately I ended up finishing the book on kindle unlimited due to the varying in volume from the female narrator to the male narrator. If I kept volume high enough to hear male narrator the females narrative was extremely loud. Besides volume issues the story was great.

Captivating plot, poor volume control on narration

I tried listening to this and i like her voice but she keeps changing the words to things in her book, like one example is the fmc decides to take a bath but the narrator says bath so her filling the tub and laying in it doesnt make sense and takes you out of the story. Nice voice and reading but it needs to be redone with her actually reading the book word for word.

Narrator keeps changing words, not in the book

The story was good. Some moments where you wanted to shake the characters. Some moments felt a bit long winded. The biggest advice is listen to the narrators first. The man whispers barely audible then the female narrator speaks full volume so it can be hard to figure out what volume level is needed. Overall decent book. Not on the first book I’d recommend but a good one the less

This book completely blew me away. The story is intricate, emotional, and endlessly fascinating – the kind of plot that challenges you to piece together the mysteries as you go, which I absolutely loved. It kept my brain working and my heart racing in equal measure.

The MMC has my whole heart. What a fiercely beautiful being – powerful, devoted, and achingly tragic in all the best ways. His love for her was eternal, and watching that thread weave through lifetimes was breathtaking.

The way the timelines were layered and tied together was masterfully done. It’s a love story that spans thousands of years, crosses dimensions, and still feels deeply intimate and personal. Epic in every sense of the word.

If you love stories that blend slow-burn romance (with a BIG spicy payoff 🥵🔥), fantasy, mystery, and deep emotional resonance – this is the book for you. Absolutely unforgettable.

Side note: I started this in audio, but the male narrator’s voice didn’t match the character for me — he sounded more like a man in his 50s/60s, while the MMC is described as looking around 30. It threw me off, so I switched to Kindle, and I’m so glad I did. The story truly came alive on the page.

Plot and story line was GIVING! Had my brain working overtime
