My favorite of the series. It had strong, impactful, character decision that were solidly in character. Authors often drop the ball when it comes to the overarching plot. Not this time.

Just when I think the stakes can't get any higher for Alex Verus and his friends, he begins a new adventure against some of the most powerful mages in the world. FALLEN sees him losing more than ever before, and taking risks to preserve all he cares about from his old mentor.

Alex's story gets very dark in this instalment, with his enemies striking a devastating blow that changes everything for him. Alex is still himself, but he continues to grow as he comes to understand that the only way he can stay ahead of Drakh is by playing a different game. Equally as compelling is the turn that Anne takes, a plot line that was just as heartbreaking. All of the side characters and enemies have powerful moments with Alex, and it was fun to see certain characters get more of a spotlight.

The action and magic is just as thrilling as ever, and I had just as much fun experiencing some truly intense and shocking moments. The stakes continue to rise and I can't wait to see what happens as the series gets closer to its end!
