The story is interesting. The narration was excellent. The main character, Alex Verus, a magician with foresight, is pretty self confident. He thinks pretty highly of himself and his gift. I found this irritating. He is vested with the responsibility of finding a powerful, dangerous object.

Overall worth listening to. It's good, and could be great, but it tries too hard at the end. It gets a bit over the top like a mission impossible sequel. Characters make inconsistent choices to advance tension/plot...

PROMISING START

This suffers a bit by the awkwardness of trying to introduce a world and characters that we expect to encounter again. Perhaps that is something that's true of all “first in the series” tales. Balancing that awkwardness is the skill displayed in narrator Gildart Jackson’s performance. He is a pleasure to listen to, no matter what the genre. It's worth carrying on with Book Two.
