Publisher's Summary

K. C. Carter has always followed the rules - until she makes a mistake that leaves her the talk of her college campus and brings her carefully arranged life crashing to a halt. Now she's stuck in her small hometown for the summer so she can complete her court-ordered community service. To make matters worse, trouble is living right next door.

Jaxon Trent is the worst kind of temptation and exactly what K. C. was supposed to stay away from in high school. But he never forgot her. She was the one girl who wouldn't give him the time of day and the only one ever to say no. Fate has brought K. C. back into his life - except what he thought was a great twist of luck turns out to be too close for comfort.

As they grow closer, he discovers that convincing K. C. to get out from under her mother's shadow is hard, but revealing the darkest parts of his soul is nearly impossible.

Great series

I really enjoyed this series. I think the author probably could have done a little Better on this book. She saved the excitement for the end and it felt a bit hurried and unfinished to me, but worth the credit .

Terrible Narration

I was so excited to get this book in the series. The story was great but after listening for 3-4 chapters, I about wanted to shoot my self. Just the most annoying voices. I will wait and read this one. Not saying it’s a bad book, just couldn’t handle the voices reading it. 😲😲

Penelope Douglas is a master writer

You may not like what you read, but if it disturbs you or touches you in any way, then that's a sign of a good writer who can make you feel.
Penelope's magic with words takes us on a journey under the surface of a young man who likes control. You might not like the toxicity of the tale she spins or the immature mind games the characters play with each other, but damn the woman can write in a way that makes you want to wring their nakes and give them a shaking.... and that's what great authors do. They make us FEEL.

Five big stars for the story.
The reason I'm not giving five stars for the performance is that Abby makes male voices sound like they speak through gritted teeth all the bloody time. Either she's whispering or snarling. She's great in the emotional scenes, but sometimes the males are loving and their words still come out sounding like a threat.

Two Broken Hearts make a whole...

Ok, so I will be so honest, I was SOOO afraid to read this one. I wasn't sure that my heart could take it...you know...when you so want to read a book but are so scared to actually see what happens...that was me...I have the ebook, I have a paperback and yet....never opened until I said, Stop being a Baby and listen to it, for some reason (and I have the complete series in audio), I am better able to listen that read this series...who knows ....anyway...SO SO SO SO SO happy that I finally took the leap because I freaking LOVED FALLING AWAY...I don't think Penelope could have done a better job at making you completely break, just to be put back together again....and then break you again...my heart still hurts.

KC/Juliet's story was so heartbreaking...who the hell would have known after meeting her in BULLY that this was what was hiding underneath. (Best part...the butter knife....HAHAHAHA).

Jaxon...well, well, well.....that little dirty talker was "nasty" and I mean more in a sense of Janet Jackson...rather than "Nasty" like mean...even though her had his moments when he needed a good one over the knee.

Penelope blew me away again...and I can't WAIT for the next in the series...let's see Jared and Tate get into some trouble!!

Very endearing

I really enjoyed this book. It’s my first time with this particular author. I liked that it was messy, bitter and sweet all in one. I felt the pain and the love. I enjoyed the main characters as well

Awesome backstory, as well as how it led Jax into his future

I really liked hearing Jax’s side of the story, and how he felt about other people in his life how he viewed himself and the world. Juliet and her diary reading was monumental. I would definitely recommend this book, it’s kind of like they’re all puzzle pieces into a family puzzle.

Bad Parenting

Good story with interesting characters and an excellent plot. The author laid out the storyline in a way that held your interest. Two boys who were in a horrible situation at home with a deadbeat dad, but grew up taking care of each other. Jax and Juliette were so good for each other and it was refreshing to see how devoted Jax was to her. But when he suddenly does a 180 on her, it thru me off. He most definitely had some issues. You've got to read this one.

Awoh! Poor K.C. and Jax! ❤

Some parts hit me in the feels and too close to home 😔 and omg I wanted to punch Jax a few times and tell him to grow up or stay in school. F*ck Liam! Aaand still wanting stories for Tate's, Maddock's, and Fallon's dads.
