Publisher's Summary

Her cheating husband was murdered and she’s the prime suspect. Proving her innocence is one thing; evading a killer who wants her dead is something else.

Betrayal. Jealousy. Revenge.

Montreal ghostwriter Megan Scott falls under police suspicion when her husband and a female companion are found murdered. In what a Québec detective calls a crime of passion, startling evidence surfaces to also implicate Michael Elliott, a young investigative reporter who’d rather rub elbows with scumbags than live the posh lifestyle he inherited.

Clutched out of her comfort zone, Megan is flung into Michael’s dark world of criminal investigation. As they make a last-ditch attempt to prove their innocence, an elusive enemy closes in and threatens their lives. Who wants them out of the way and why?

Their only path to freedom is to catch the twisted killer before they become the next victims. But not knowing who to trust or where to turn can have consequences that are just as lethal.

Loved it! Couldn’t put it down

I LOVED this book from start to finish! Expertly written, it was an effortless and seamless read with a quick pace. I could not put this book down. Ms. Nikolai takes the reader on a murder mystery adventure with many plausible twists and turns.

Having lived in Montreal, I thought the author did a fantastic job of portraying this great Canadian city. Her detailed descriptions of places and landmarks, the vibe of the city and its people took me back.

The narrator, Kelli Tager, also did an excellent job. Her voice was a perfect fit for this story and the various characters in this book.

What a pleasure to enjoy a well-developed novel with believable and likeable characters, a great story and clever writing. Kudos to Ms. Nikolai!

I received this book for free in exchange for an unbiased review and as an avid mystery reader, I will definitely be following this series for more of Megan and Micheal’s adventures.

Good and worth a listen

My general impression of this audiobook was a positive one. It is the first audiobook in a series in which Ms. Nicolai has begun using the characters Megan Scott and Michael Elliott. False Impressions revolves around the murder mystery of Megan's husband and work colleague. The story primarily takes place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. While the plot developed reasonably well, I must admit that I was not "wowed" at the storyline at any point. I considered it a good story, and I think you will enjoy it as well.

The narration was handled by a single female narrator, Kelli Tager. I understand that audiobooks do not have large budgets to produce but to ask a single person to do all the different voices in a book is like asking one person to play all the parts in a movie. Some of the male voices did not work well, in particular the French-Canadian police officers. I hope that future efforts from Ms. Nicolai's audiobooks can consider having separate narrators reading parts with difficult voices.

False Impressions is worth listening to, especially if you have yet to listen to Sandra Nikolai's work.
