Publisher's Summary

Smart men quit while they’re ahead - they lay low and hope disaster blows on by them. Not me. Especially when disaster seems to follow me and my soulmate Havoc, a demon I bound to me 300 years ago with my magic.

The dark mage Geoff is back from the dead and creating chaos by devouring the hearts of people with magical abilities, giving him overwhelming power as his followers grow. And since I’m one of the strongest mages alive and am leading the resistance against him, he’s coming for me next. Oh, and it might have something to do with the fact that I was also the one who originally killed him. But you can’t blame me; the guy needed to die.

Havoc and I, along with our unlikely band of...(I don’t want to say heroes, I can’t give them that much credit) annoyances will stop at nothing to end the destruction. It doesn’t hurt that there’s a sexy demon by my side every step of the way. For the first time in 300 years, I’m finally with the person meant for me, and I will do anything to keep from losing him.

Familiar Beginnings is a 63k word sequel to Happy Endings. Contains a powerful mage who just wants to be left in peace, a mysterious curly-haired troublemaker, gargoyles that are literally dumber than stone, a river trip that doesn’t feel at all like a vacation, and a “cat” with some unusual features and deadly claws.

Intense and Hilarious read

Awesome story and narration. Fantastic character interaction and dialogue. Absolutely a great sequel to the first book. Now I'm on to read the third book and listen to it. I recommend you do the same.

Loved it

This has been my favorite audiobook so far. The humor had me laughing out loud in my car, the romance was sweet and endearing, the erotic parts were written a lot better than most audio books I've listened to, and the plot was enjoyable. it's helped by a great performance and well delivered emotion that brings the characters to life.

Would recommend.

Love love love it!!!!

This was a fun series! The characters are great and unique. I wish there were more books coming in the series. I’m sure there are more adventures they could get up to. The “cat” was a Menace that made me laugh so hard!!!! If you like fictional beings you’ll love this.

Better than Book 1, wonderful ending

With Alice Winters, you know what you are getting: Humor, likeable characters with actual character development, plot twists, stories that keep you listening far longer than you should, happy endings, romance, and great narrators. Oh, yes, sex, too, although I am so old that I am too embarrassed to do anything but keep repeating, “Alexa, skip two minutes,” until it is past. I will happily skip a few brief scenes that make me uncomfortable to get the luscious diversion that allows me to keep going on tedious tasks while the time just flies by, even if it means I am greatly saddened when it is over. (I am made sad because the book is finished, not because the ending is sad.)

There are authors who simply tell you what a person is like, because you cannot tell anything about who they are from their words or actions. Still others develop a character fully, only to kill them off for shock value. Alice Winters does neither of those things, yet she draws you in for a thumpin’ good story. There are books that are highly rated where I wonder how that many people could like them, but not these. My favorite of her series is Vampire-Related Crime, but I haven’t found any I dislike yet.

silly fun

Story: 3.25⭐️
Audio: 4.5⭐️

I swear the tagline for this series should be 'Stupidly powerful beings being stupid" with all the failing up Miles manages to do that saves his skin 😂. However, I did enjoy Miles and Havoc more as an established couple; this book wasn't as focused on jokes and silly @$$hattery as the first one so the MCs felt more like a couple than beings together for so long they inevitably shagged.

Geoff is a clear and present danger throughout and with all his heart gobbling, gives Miles a run for his OP money. The pacing is pretty brisk and the memory sharing is generally well-placed to add to the story without detracting from momentum. The ending action set piece isn't bad per se but there are some head-scratching logistical issues that Miles's plot armor underscore, but all in all the book is an entertaining listen that didn't make me regret all my life choices for purchasing.

Thank you for the gift

Dear Alice Winter,

I was in so much pain for the past few days. I had to cancel my important meeting. Someone quit the day after they accepted the job. I have been miserable. And then you gave me the gift of laughter.

I noticed how nice it was that I could laugh at your story and your idiot characters through all of the misery I was going through. And I thought, what a wonderful gift. Alice must really love me!

Thank you, Alice! Thank you, Miles! Thank you, Havoc! I love you all and this fabulous book!

I adore the Scooby Gang feel of this story and, as usual, Havoc and Miles are a fascinating couple. Their history is so interesting!
