When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it's the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run - and they say he is coming after Harry. The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Story
Harry Potter lives in a world that is both magical and historical. Hogwarts pupils ride an old-fashioned steam train to school, notes are taken on parchment with quill pens, and Muggle legends come to life in the form of werewolves, witches, and magical spells. This book is the first to explore the real history in which Harry's world is rooted. Did you know that bezoars and mandrakes were fashionable luxury items for centuries? Find out how Europeans first developed the potions, spells, and charms taught at Hogwarts, from Avada Kedavra to love charms.

Publisher's Summary
"A glance through Muggle art and literature of the Middle Ages reveals that many of the creatures they now believe to be imaginary were then known to be real."
As every fan of the Harry Potter stories knows, the shelves of the Hogwarts Library are home to all sorts of fascinating books. There are three in particular you might have heard mentioned by certain Hogwarts students and that you can add to your listening list too, including Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
A set textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since publication, Newt Scamander's masterpiece has entertained wizarding families through the generations. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the wizarding world.
Flipping through the pages of Newt's famous journal, you'll journey around the globe and discover the many and varied creatures that he made it his life's work to study and protect. Some of the beasts will be familiar to fans of the Wizarding World - the Hippogriff, the Niffler, the Hungarian Horntail...while others will surprise even the most ardent amateur Magizoologist.
Who better to narrate this stunning catalogue of magical creatures than Eddie Redmayne, who plays Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts movies? Eddie's film credits include The Danish Girl, My Week with Marilyn, Les Misérables and The Theory of Everything, for which he won a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, and a BAFTA Award for Best Actor.
Fans of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them are sure to enjoy the other Hogwarts Library books: Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Great if you're a big harry potter fan
This book is an A-Z of magical creatures in J.K. Rowling's magical world. It reads kind of like a textbook. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a HUGE Harry Potter fan or anyone who just wants to know a little more about the world that the author has created. But please keep in mind that it is a 'textbook', it is not a story book like the original Harry Potter book. If you are looking to see a version of the movie, this is probably not for you, as this is the 'textbook' that will be eventually be 'written by the main character' at the end of the first movie. That being said, I am a huge Harry Potter fan and thoroughly enjoyed learning more about creatures I didn't know existed in the original series and learning more about the ones I did know existed.

Just a Reference Book
When I first purchased this I was anticipating a story but I was surprised to find that this book is indeed a wizarding textbook. I didn't find much value in this other than the introduction seeing as the rest is just information about some Fantastic Beasts.
It could be a good listen for a /very/ die hard Harry Potter fan, but for me it's something I'm definitely not coming back to.

Hands down, this is my favourite of the Hogwarts Library so far. It reads from A-Z like an encyclopedia and the sound effects and Eddie Redmayne’s narration make it come alive. It’s become one of my favourite audiobooks to re-listen to when I need a brief mental escape. Highly recommend

There isn't much story here... but that narrator!
I honestly have never wanted to read this book nor purchase any version. I do have the screenplay because I mean the cover is beautiful! But besides that, it does not call my attention fully.
However, I saw that Audible published this title a few months ago and I heard the preview... and oh my god! This is just one of the best narrations and productions I have heard in my life. There is nothing better than read, but when you listen a book that is full of special effects and sounds of dragons, pixies, fairies, merpeople, and other fantastic beasts that you can come up with... it is just another story and another world!

For some reason I thought that this was an actual story. Guess I should have read the description a little bit more completely. It's probably fun to sit with your kids and look through the different creatures, but doesn't make for a very interesting audible experience

A new twist on a childhood favorite!
I enjoyed the original Fantastic Beasts textbook as a child and also am madly in love with Eddie Redmayne and thought he made the perfect Newt Scamander in the film adaptation so this updated audiobook was an immediate must-have. While it isn't really much of a story due to the textbook description format, it was still a delightfully entertaining quick listen. It included some new creatures that weren't in the original book and also had some updated musings from the "author" that I can only hope are foreshadowing for the new movies. #FairytaleTwists #UnlikelyHero #Magical #Nostalgic #Animal #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Yes
What was most disappointing about J.K. Rowling and Newt Scamander ’s story?
The whole book. I can't believe someone thought it was worth the time to make an audiobook out of an encyclopedia of magical creatures.
What does Eddie Redmayne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is a good narrator.

There is no story just a list of creatures
Probably my fault for not listening to the sample I thought it was the story of the new feature film it is not it's just a simple list of beasts nothing more. Unless you a huge Harry Potter head it's not worth your time.

bad recording
The sound kept cutting in and out. I thought it would interest me but to be honest I fell asleep listening to it.

Meh.
I found it hard to engage with this one. I guess I was expecting more of a narrative; the fictional-expository style didn't capture my attention despite Eddie Redmayne's excellent reading. I chuckled here and there, but I can't say I'm this book was so short.

Agréable écoute mais pas passionnant
Belle performance du narrateur et toujours le plaisir de retrouver l'univers de JK Rowling. Mais cette collection de descriptions d'animaux fantastiques (quoique bien écrites) ne vaut pas un bon roman.
