Publisher's Summary

  • Is there a connection between microbes in the soil and in our bodies?
  • Why does a dirty farm offer protection from allergies while a dirty urban apartment does not?
  • What can pastured hens teach us about "good" stress and "bad" stress?
  • How can a vineyard pest management system inspire more effective cancer treatment?
  • What can cows teach us about raising healthy eaters?

Can urban farms reduce neighborhood crime? These may not sound like typical questions for a family physician to consider, but in Farmacology, Daphne Miller, MD, ventures out of her medical office and travels to seven innovative family farms around the country on a quest to discover the hidden connections between how we care for our bodies and how we grow our food.

Miller also seeks out the perspectives of noted biomedical scientists and artfully weaves in their insights and research, along with stories from her own medical practice. Farmacology offers a profound new approach to healing, combined with practical advice for how to treat disease and maintain wellness.

LOVED THIS BOOK!!

I just loved how she talked about multiple farms and gardening and how families live. As a Horticulturalist and Nutritionist I want to buy a farm now.

Christians beware

The first 7 or 8 chapters were fascinating as I listened intently about how good regenerative farming is for each of us and in more ways than one.

After chapter 8 she mentions "vaccines are safe and effective" for humans, but notes how the farm she just visited never vaccinates his herd of healthy cattle, and doesn't need to.

Finally, in the last 2 chapters she shares stories of channeling and watching the direction of crystals swinging over jars of herbs.

While the first half of the book was still valuable, I have to recommend the Christian reader should tread carefully through the last few chapters.

Going to buy the hard copy of this one

The content is very informative and well written. The narrator can be a bit robotic at times, but definitely worth the read

Crystals and all - great book

There's a negative review stating that Christians should beware after chapter 6?, nonsense. There is wisdom available in all studies, which could be the subtitle of this book.
Great read on a Western Scientists journey towards nontraditional medicine. These types of journeys are becoming more and more common as Western med can't seem to keep up with the new realm of modern illnesses people seem to be experiencing.
If you want insight into why all new restaurant menus across the US and Western Europe now have a great deal of special diet designations, this is a good book to start you on your journey.

Good listen, probably a better read...

so much great content, that's really deep, I almost think I need a book to refer to.
great way to get through the big picture and to the point of the information, so definitely something I'd recommend to listeners if you want to start somewhere.

WOW! Everyone should hear/read this

The concepts in this book are so important for people to hear and learn. It takes the old "you are what you eat" statement and proves it.
