Fatherland is set in an alternative world where Hitler has won the Second World War. It is April 1964 and one week before Hitler's 75th birthday. very good narration. I've had the words sturmbannführer and obergruppenführer stuck in my head for days. really interesting to see the Holocaust being uncovered. Great suspense. much better than the film.

4.5 stars. It was an interesting premise: What the world be like if Hitler won the war... And Michael Jayston is a phenomenal narrator. Of course, when I hear his voice, I automatically think John le Carre books. I am just learning German and thought his pronunciation was quite good. He passionately read this book- as if he was as interested in it as I was. The book pulled me in right away and I was gripped until the end. I thought the ending could've been better (1/2 star loss), but c'est la vie. I will definitely be reading more of Mr Harris' books in the future.
