About this listen
In this thriller from a number one New York Times best-selling true-crime author, a detective's obsession with an infamous serial killer could lead to her demise.
Ted Bundy. One of America's most notorious serial killers. For two women, he is the ultimate obsession. One is a cop whose sister may have been one of Bundy's victims. The other is a deranged groupie who corresponded with Bundy in prison - and raised her son to finish what Bundy started. To charm and seduce innocent girls. To kidnap and brutalize more women than any serial killer in history. And to lure one obsessed cop into a trap as sick and demented as Bundy himself....

Great book!
Lots of characters but once I got it all straight it was a great read! Obsessions with serial killers are very interesting and this book explores this phenomenon and made it seem real.
I do recommend this book!

Clever..but Olsen's Better At True Crime
Gregg Olsen offers a captivating Crime Thriller about a Ted Bundy copycat abducting, raping, and dismembering young girls in the Pacific Northwest. In a brilliant twist, one of the investigators on the case is married to an FBI profiler and is the surviving sister of one of Bundy's victims. The set-up is genius.
Unfortunately, Olsen falls short in execution. The characters are often stereotypical and the dialogue is somewhat predictable. The book reads like a run-of-the-mill television screenplay. Olsen is much better at interpreting than he is at inventing.
Reader Karen Peakes contributes to my "meh" assessment of the book, too. To be certain, her diction, timbre, cadence, and tone are creditable (even commendable).. but her voice-acting isn't very good on this project (a couple of accents are actually cringe-worthy).
Altogether, I rate 'Fear Collector' 7 stars out of 10. It was a more than reasonable distraction off of the 'Plus' menu.. but your Credit might be better spent elsewhere when they ask for one.
[Note: The extensive research on and hypothetical correspondence with Death Row inmate Ted Bundy by the obsessed bereaved reads like there's a Biography/Documentary enmeshed in the fictional procedural. It's unique & impressive.]
ATTN PRODUCERS: The Publisher's Summary includes a spoiler for the biggest reveal of the novel. I suspect that it's too late, but you should remove it. I can't believe that Mr. Olsen signed off on it.
