Publisher's Summary

Alex Cross enters the final battle with the all-knowing genius who has stalked him and his family for years.

Dr. Alex Cross and Detective John Sampson venture into the rugged Montana wilderness - where they will be the prey.

They’re not on the job, but on a personal mission.

Until they’re attacked by two rival teams of assassins, controlled by the same mastermind who has stalked Alex and his family for years.

Darkness falls. The river churns into rapids. Shots ring out through the forest.

No backup. No way out. Fear no evil.

Entertaining story. Lots of interesting characters

who work together well. Quite imaginative. Delivery mediocre. Good descriptions of locale. Character voices not very original. Actual story very entertaining.

Good Policing

Thoroughly enjoyed the story about the hiking in the mountains and the wilderness of Montana. Also it told of how the good guys prevailed.

Disappointing to say the least

Have read all of the Alex Cross books but this will be the last. This is not much better than a dime store novel. Shallow plots and terrible writing - really can't believe that this a Patterson novel.

Fear what exactly?

This was the most boring, uneventful, mess of an Alex Cross book. I have been a fan of Patterson my entire adult life, but the downward spiral of garbage /co writting has finally made it to the singular writting of the Alex Cross series. Patterson could have plugged in any number of characters in to this book and it would have come out terrible. The story dragged on and on then ended abruptly with without the wiff of confrontation or climax. Skip this and the rest of Patterson's latest books. They are aweful!

unsettled

I don’t like to write lengthy reviews (or what I see are just non stop spoilers and unnecessary criticism not related to the story.)
So, the best I can do is mention the change in Narrator is acceptable due to my favorite Fellow retiring and the new fellow flowed almost immediately, and if you’ve not read the books in order, there are enough brief explanations to prevent losing interest in a not fully expressed
main character. While this isn’t my favorite of the series (the previous book is my favorite of them all,) it was a nice respite from Soviet espionage!
Alex Cross fans will like it.

Narrator Cary Hite ruins listening experience

Cary Hite is just not a fluid reader. Accents are terrible and I can hear him focus on pronunciation so much because he must over articulate words with three or more syllables. He distracts me from enjoying the story.

Disappointed

I am huge Patterson and Alex Cross series fan. This was the first that was a disappointment. I am not sure if it was narrator reading the book or just general story. I really did not care for the performance and don’t think I would purchase any other books with this narrator. I struggled to listen to the entire book and almost quick several times. The story line seemed forced.

eh...

The problem with expectations is you're easily disappointed. I thought James Patterson would be much better.

Not the Alex Cross story I expected

I love the Alex Cross series and have read every single one and couldn’t wait for this one. Well my waiting it send was in vain. This in no way lived up to the stories James Patterson has put forth before. It seemed as though Bree’s storyline was an afterthought
