Story
From the beginning, Geneen Roth was told she was too sensitive, too emotional, too curious, too demanding, too intense, and too big. Yet gaining and losing weight for decades did not improve her self-worth or reduce other people's criticisms. Like most women who struggle with their weight, she believed that if she could resolve what seemed to be the source of her self-hatred - how and what she ate - she would be thin, happy, and free. That belief, she discovered, was false.

Publisher's Summary
Address the Causes of Compulsive Eating, and Nurture a Love Affair with Yourself
Why do we eat too much? Because we are hungry - but not for more food. In Feeding the Hungry Heart, you will learn how a deep internal hunger for self-respect and fulfillment often translates into compulsive eating. Geneen Roth - a "no more diets" pioneer for more than 15 years - has helped thousands of women look at the real truth about the unconscious motivations that can lead to distorted eating patterns. Diets fail to work, Roth says, because they treat the symptoms of overeating, not the real problems. By looking at childhood programming and learning to pay attention to what your body really needs, you can restore balance in your life and heal at the deepest level.
Feeding the Hungry Heart has helped a generation of women live diet-free by encouraging them to replace overeating with self-awareness and compassion. This live recording documents many exercises and visualizations and Roth's powerful "Four Principles for Breaking Free" eating guidelines.

Transformational
I recommend this audio book to anyone who has struggled with food and compulsive eating, It was presented incredibly well, I laughed and cried and throughout the story and workshops went from self loathing and desperation to being determined to live my life better, make changes, and develop into healthier habits. As an anorexic with episodes of bingeing and then starving myself out of self hatred I have used hunger as a manageable pain/distraction, and a sense of control…meanwhile it has made so many things worse.
Thank you so, so much for helping me to bring awareness to my self destructive habits and helping me to see that it doesn’t have to be that way.

Excellent tool!
I have been following Geneen Roth's work since she appeared on Oprah many years ago, and this recording is an excellent tool for refreshing myself of her message. She is a warm person with a quirky sense of humour and that really comes through, making this entertaining even though the subject is in itself serious. But she makes it not gloomy. She makes it uplifting. This was recorded in an actual workshop setting so you hear from the participants, which is illuminating. I look forward to listening to this whenever I need to be reminded of her guidelines.

Enjoyed this book
Would you listen to Feeding the Hungry Heart again? Why?
Yes I would listen to this book again. I really enjoyed the author - I appreciated her awareness and openness as she talked about everything, especially the interaction with the people in her workshop.
What did you like best about this story?
The book that I listened to was a recording of a workshop that she did - I downloaded that by mistake, but actually enjoyed the interactive aspect of the workshop.
What about Geneen Roth’s performance did you like?
She was fantastic in every sense - engaging, hilarious, honest, real.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
Exercise is not something I have to do, it's a reward and a gift that I want to do to be good to myself, to make my life easier and the best it can be throughout my life

Great book!
For almost all of us, no diet alone will solve our food issues. Ms Roth heartwarmingly opens our eyes to what the real issue is with our battle with food. It's as pertinent today as it was then -- if not even more so.

I'm in awe of her accomplishments.
Where does Feeding the Hungry Heart rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's not too high up in the list of non-fiction as it was too short; it left me wanting.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Feeding the Hungry Heart?
Not forbidding any foods to myself ever again.
Any additional comments?
The visualization exercises really worked for me.
