Publisher's Summary

"I've done everything wrong, Finn. From day one. It was the only way I knew how to be with you and still be worthy of you. But I see now that I never really was." (Callan)

Vengeance. It's the one thing on ex-cop Rhys Tellar's mind and he's spent every day of his two-year prison sentence planning how he'll bring down the former lover and partner who sold him out and cost four people their lives. A six-month parole stint working at the CB Bar Ranch in southwestern Montana should be the easiest thing he's ever done. But the last thing he expects is to feel something for both the charismatic ranch hand who befriends him and the enigmatic foreman who's pretending to be something he's not.

A future. That's what Finn Stewart wants, but to have it he must leave behind the man he wants above all others, his very straight boss and best friend, Callan Bale. As the only openly gay man in a small, homophobic community, Finn has to fight every day to be who he is and walking away is starting to seem like the easier path. Until Rhys Tellar shows up and changes everything.

A lie. Callan Bale's entire life has been about hiding the man he really is and it's about to cost him the one person who's managed to worm his way past the walls he's spent years putting up. But choosing Finn would mean giving up everything he's worked for and breaking the promises he's made. At least losing the younger man to Rhys means Finn can have the life he deserves.

Three men. Three choices. One chance at finding home.

Can be heard as a stand-alone story - no cliffhangers.

This series crosses over with some of my other series, so for the most enjoyment, they should be heard in order, but it is not required.

loved it

Callan: is in the closet. He runs his homophobic father's ranch. The whole town is homophobic and has been trying to ruin Cals ranch cause he refused to fire Finn for being gay. He had always had feelings for Finn but couldn't admit it. Then his father got alzheimers so he felt obligated to take care of him and felt even moreso that he can never come out.

Finn: started on the ranch when he was 13 with his father and when he came out the town including his father turned on him. Cal fired Finns father and kept him. Finn told Cal he was interested in him but Cal made it clear he wasn't interested in him and he was just being nice (a lie). So Finn lusts over Cal from afar.

Rhyse: Is newly released out of prison (for a really crappy reason but I dont want to spoiler what that is) and is on parole and needs to get work or go back to jail for 2 years. Nobody local wanted a con so he had to go to the far off ranch to find work. He has no experience but he's desperate and Cal is nice enough to give him a shot which he quickly regrets when he discovers he's also gay and is interested "in his man" but Rhyse says he just needs to put in his 6 month probation and then he'll be gone.

I loved this story and these 3 men. I don't like homophobes and I also don't usually like to read stories where the person is in the closet but I really enjoyed this story. It's a hot and sweet short read (4 hours).

In this book we are also introduced to the new vet in town and after what he does in one particular scene (again I won't say what so I dont spoiler it) I am so looking forward to reading book 2

Michael Pauley is always great!
