Story
Finlay Donovan is - once again - struggling to finish her next novel and keep her head above water as a single mother of two. On the bright side, she has her live-in nanny and confidant Vero to rely on, and the only dead body she's dealt with lately is that of her daughter's pet goldfish. On the not-so-bright side, someone out there wants her ex-husband, Steven, out of the picture. Permanently. Whatever else Steven may be, he's a good father, but saving him will send her down a rabbit hole of soccer moms disguised as hit-women.

Story
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results. But like science, life is unpredictable.

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Story
PhD candidate Phoebe Walsh has always been obsessed with true crime. She's even analyzing the genre in her dissertation—if she can manage to finish writing it. It's hard to find the time while she spends the summer in Florida, cleaning out her childhood home, dealing with her obnoxiously good-natured younger brother, and grappling with the complicated feelings of mourning a father she hadn't had a relationship with for years.

Publisher's Summary
"Angela Dawe's narration makes YA author Elle Cosimano's debut novel for grown-ups a wild and funny romp...Dawe offers Cosimano's laugh-out-loud moments with just the right sparkle." (AudioFile Magazine)
IT’S MURDER BEING A HIT-MOM
"Getting the job done" for one single mom takes on a whole new meaning in Finlay Donovan is Killing It, a deliciously witty adult debut - the first in a brilliant new series from YA Edgar Award nominee Elle Cosimano.
FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT...except, she’s really not. The new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head.
When Finlay’s overheard discussing the plot of her new novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet...and she soon discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart.

Fun Plot
I won’t lie, I almost didn’t get into the story at first. The start seemed to have a few forced elements, like the events that led up to the fates meeting in the restaurant and some radical trust moments.
But, the turning of the plot, expected or not, did keep you on your toes here and there. With several characters playing dual roles in Finlay’s personal life and in the murder investigation(s), it was fun guessing along the way. If you are the type who loves to be wrong when you are guessing the plot, I would recommend.
All in all, the story gives the vibe of ‘If Stephanie Plum had kids while surviving domestic dystopia and clumsily catching bad guys’; a quirky and relatable heroine making it in crazy backwards and lethal situations. Downloading the next one when I can.
For the performance, the voices were very well done with one exception; there are a few accent slips in the first half of the audio. I think they may be from the UK? But I might also be nit picking.

So fun!
I loved this audiobook. The narrator is awesome and the story is delightful! It was smart, laugh out loud funny, and full of twists and turns. The premise is a bit like the show Breaking Bad - ie a normal person and their sidekick enter a life of crime without really meaning to get into the crazy, escalating situations they find themselves in. Loved it and didn’t want it to end!

A Hilarious Hit Gone Awry
Struggling single mom Finlay Donovan gets mistaken for a hit woman. All hell breaks loose in fantastic hilarity.
As a constantly sticky mom of toddlers, I identified with Finley Donovan from the very first sentence of the book. Fortunately, that’s where our similarities ended. She goes on to make colossally horrible decisions but instead of detracting from the story, they enhanced the ensuing circus of events. There were some glaringly unbelievable elements, especially when it came to Findlay’s involvement in every aspect of the storyline. All in all, Cosimano somehow stacks these silly concepts together and makes a house of cards that precariously but defiantly stands on its own. Fast paced and entertaining, it was an enjoyable read, fondly reminding me of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evonovich.
Audiobook This was a great narration. Dawe’s rendition fits Finlay perfectly. She has amazing character definition! I knew exactly who was speaking before being told so.

Meh
This started out well - funny, fresh, and interesting. By the middle it had become ridiculous and kept getting worse. I couldn't wait for it to be over.
The main character is a frumpy single mom with a failing writing career and money problems. She unwittingly or accidentally commits crimes for money and then deals with the fallout via ridiculous twists. She describes herself as a bit of a slob in dress and appearance, but somehow not 1 but 2 gorgeous men want her. She of course opts for the young bartender/underwear model/lawyer in training who "sees through her disguise" and is in love with her based on a conversation consisting of a drink order and directions. He says she is "easy to talk to"....umm how hard is it to take a drink order and point to a table in the back of the room? He is completely unfazed when all her lies and crimes are revealed. Ugh.

HOT Nick
I got book 2 on sale and had to go back and get this book one for a full credit and it was so well worth it. These are continuing stories and they don’t stand alone, so now even though I read book 2 first and it was hilarious it really didn’t make all that much sense until I went back and listen to this one. The books are short very entertaining And if you’re able to get any or all on sale then it’s a great listen because the wonderful Angela Dawe really interprets the whit of all the characters. In this book hot Nick is featured and not much in book 2 which was a disappointment. This author ends the books Not with a cliffhanger but a preview of the next book.

Hands down this is my favorite read of the year! This book has everything(maybe a little more spice would be nice). It is a fun read, and I cannot wait to listen to the next book in the series. I can easily see this made into a tv series and being a huge hit!!! The narrator does an excellent job as well. This book deserves 5 stars and a chef’s kiss. It’s perfect!
