Publisher's Summary

Years ago, the skies ripped open and the world was destroyed in fire and ash. Dragons - once creatures of legend - are the enemy. Vicious and unpredictable, they rule the skies of the ruined cities, forcing humanity to huddle behind barricades for safety.

Claudia's a survivor. She scrapes by as best as she can in a hard, dangerous world. When she runs afoul of the law, she's left as bait in dragon territory. She only has one chance to survive - to somehow tame a dragon and get it to obey her.

Except the dragon that finds her is as wild and brutal as any other...and he's not interested in obeying. What he is interested in is a mate.

Contains mature themes.

it got better

i liked the story line but the beginning was hard to listen to. I almost stopped because of the dragons perspective. I am glad i kept going, as it did get better. I wanted a dirty book and I got one.

Loved this: Awesome

I truly enjoyed listening to this 1st book in the series. Both Narrators did an excellent job & its so enjoyable to be able to just relax and listen to a book you've already read (over a year ago), one you'd previously loved reading. I was glad to finally be able purchase this audiobook. The introduction to this dystopian future finds our heroine Claudia, in jail awaiting trial, while she worries about her delicate & naive sister Amy, whom is totally dependent upon her for food and protection. She knows her sister Amy will be frantic. After two weeks in custody shes finally brought to the Mayor, for a farce of a trial which ends with Claudia finding herself exiled and being offered as dragon's bait. Naked and Cuffed to a pole atop a tall building shes told shes to tame the Dragon! WHAT! at this point she knows she's about to die a horrible death! The crazed dragons have decimated the world over the past 7 years, ever since a horrible rift tore open the skies pulling through crazed dragons. Shes seen the dragons kill burn destroy, Billions are dead, city's destroyed with only small remnants of people gathered in makeshift forts trying to survive. Book 1 gives some hints as to how & why the dragons are crazed and the only hope for anyones survival is the mind calming effect that a mate brings to a dragon. Loved the sexy sensual scenes & the continuing HEA that Ruby Dixon is famous for. Keep up the great work!

Romance and fantasy

Definitely mature content, but the overall story line was enjoyable and gripping. There was actually a lot of mature content, however, it didn’t distract from the story line. Good book.

It’s not bad, I love the spice! The story is unique

I’ve never listened to a post apocalyptic book with sex craved dragons before & I’m not complaining! The male voice took me a while to get use to no my favourite but it was more doable by the end.

The storyline is easy enough to follow and I can for shadow what obstacles they might face next, I’m hopeful the next book will be better

Couldn’t do it

The story was ok, for what I got through. But the male readers voice…..I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t make it through half of the book.

Good Times!

Better than I expected! Both narrators were great, we hear a lot more from the female narrator, which usually annoys me, but she was really good with the different voices so it worked out nicely.

I appreciate that the author created this unique world without over detailing every feature of it, I didn't get bored, and I was hooked from chapter 1.
That said, keep in mind that this book doesn't have a lot of action, it reveals more about the current state of the world and the mindsets of the characters. I'm hoping the action picks up as the story unfolds.

I'm also looking forward to hearing more about the rift in the sky and how it got there! I mostly listened at 1.4x speed. . . on to #2😃

For the love of dragon!

I must say this is one of the most interesting books I have listened to in a while. RD managed to weave romance in a sort of post apocalyptic earth... something very few people manage to capture well.

The story is a little slow pace for my liking but it actually works. I would have liked for the first few chapters to be shorter but i stuck with it long enough to get caught in the story's web. I can imagine this is what would happen if dragons did somehow manage to invade the planet. After years of dragon rampages, nature finds a way to balance out the the power by linking a dragon to a human mate. Of course, the story wouldn't be as much fun if the female goes willingly. The story focuses more on resolving the heroine internal conflict, understandably because it's not everyday a human falls for another species. There is a bit of explicit sex scenes but for a paranormal book, it was a bit vanilla. Don't get me wrong she wasn't annoying but it would have been better if she didn't run hot one moment then cold the next..There are a few secondary characters but not enough back story about them to really make me like or dislike them. There were a few that got what they deserved! For a while I thought, RD was going to let them get away with their crap but lucky for me she didn't.

The narration was ok. I have listened to both narrators before and while they are not top of my list, they are good enough to keep my attention. To be honest, as a paranormal romance fan, I would say if you are going through a dry spell (I am right now.. sigh) give this book a shot. It's a couple of hours of entertainment and is really not that bad in my opinion.

My Dragon

Great book. It reminded me little of the Warriors of Hir by Willow Danes. The non ability to communicate was hilarious. Both narrators were great doing each characters point of view. Neither Kyle nor Claudia understood each other. At first she thought he wanted to eat her and he could not make her understand he wanted to be her mate. I love dragon stories and normally i prefer ones that have a balance of action and romance but even though these were more on the romance side, they were fantastic. I am currently listening to the second book.

Darkness, hunger, kill, anger and then some😾

It started off strong but this repetitive inner dialogue is killing me. I'm halfway through and want to know how it ends but geeze😵

Struggling to finish and feel sorry for the hero. The heroine can't understand why he picked her and neither can I.

Not much of a story, but bunches ‘o sex!

A good editor would have cut the repetitive angst, thoughts, bullshit, etc., and the book would been about half as long. This book was like porn, just enough of a (bad)story to prop up the sex scenes. I like sexy stuff as much as anyone, but a good story is mandatory.

Ugh... sappy female with too much internal conflict

I am sorry but it would seem if one was dealing with an apocalypse that people would be much stronger in mind and body.

This female is much too conflicted about everything dragon mate, sister, friend, human race. Seriously you are mated to a dragon go in and kick ass with your mate screw the people that screwed you. BTW...If your sister is too weak to survive in an apocalypse then HELLO tough love, she doesn't survive. Or here's one better...Teach her how to get by....
Story would be better if the heroine would grow a pair. Maybe the author should write of an older seasoned character instead of a young, weak and indecisive one.

Hate stupid women!

The heroin has to be the most clueless person ever. The inconsistency of her supposedly being street-smart and a survivor and also a clueless ditz is ridiculous and frustrating. Could not finish....

Phenomenal story given the post-apocalyptic nature

I for one am not usually a fan of post-apocalyptic stories. I do however, love dragons not mindless bloodthirsty Godzilla in Tokyo dragons but majestic creatures such as in Dragon heart and McCaffrey's Dragon riders of pern those kind of dragons. This series so far seems to be a combination of both. I absolutely love Kyle's personality! I have not started the second book yet but I am hoping that it is not going to be a total standalone because the story was so good that I can't wait to see what's going to happen and Kyle and Claudia's future :-) fair warning the first part is a little slow while they're working out there communication differences but I strongly urge anyone who wants to listen to the story to give it a chance because it made me laugh it made me want to cry. I found myself talking back to the computer screen when Claudia was being especially obtuse I found myself feeling very very sorry for Kyle at times. But I definitely recommend this story and/or series for anyone who wants to read a beauty tames the beast type of story :-) my one complaint is that Claudia did not get to converse with her friend to help her understand the Dragon kind better. I am hoping reverently I am hoping fervently that they will get a chance to come together at some point I will admit that to me the ending is a bit of a cliffhanger that I'm desperately wishing will be taken care of in the second book.
