Story
I’m a man with too many secrets, so the last thing I need is a new roommate with a sexy smile and blue eyes that see right through me. Eight years ago, Roderick left town after high school. We’re not friends. I owe him nothing. But back then, I let one of my secrets slip, and he’s the only one who noticed. Part of me knows I should run far, far away. But the other part wants him to come upstairs and spend the night. But if I let him in, I could lose everything.

Story
Ever hear the story about the bodyguard who falls for the rock star? Yeah, it never ends well. Each day I remind myself that it's my job to protect Stone. And nowhere in the job description does it say I should lust after the charismatic, charming man. Especially since we're opposites. But every night I spend with him the dangerous, off-limits attraction grows more intense. Until one night in a limo when we combust. One time only will have to be enough. One scorching, forbidden night. Because the mistakes from the past are chasing me. And if I give in again, I'll lose everything.

For the last three years, I've lived and breathed hockey with one goal: team captain. There's only one thing standing in my way. TJ Beckett. Beck is irresponsible and immature, and I've hated him since the moment we met freshman year. Yet the coaches see something in him I obviously can't, and they refuse to choose between us. The captain spot is going to a team vote. And the team thinks that what we need are a bunch of challenges to prove our worth.

"Look out for Zach, and don't hit on him." My brother's request sounds easy enough. Keep an eye out for his best friend on campus and keep my hands to myself. Easy. Even if Zach is a quintessential nerd, who I've always thought was cute, I don't have the time to think with my...stick. There's only one stick I should be focused on this year, and that's my hockey stick. My goal once I graduate is to get an NHL contract. The last thing I need is a distraction. On or off the ice. Only, keeping to the rules is harder than I thought it would be.

My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Look, I left LA for a reason. I’ve had my fill of big Hollywood stars and their even bigger egos. I want something genuine. Something real. And it doesn’t get any realer than being the new sheriff of Aster Valley, Colorado. That is, until entitled Finn Heller appears on the scene, handing me the keys to his convertible like I’m his personal servant. Oz Gallagher does not do relationships well. Bored and jobless after another disastrous hook up, he decides to leave London for a temporary job in the wilds of Cornwall. Surely managing a stately home on a country estate will be easier than navigating the detritus of his relationships at home. Six months there will alleviate a bit of his wanderlust and then he can come back to London as footloose and fancy free as the day he left it. However, when he gets there, he finds a house in danger of crumbling to the ground and a man who is completely unlike anyone he’s ever met.

Every bartender should follow one simple rule - don't go home with the customers. That’s been easy for me to stick to, until the night a cocky, confident, and sinfully charming hockey star walks into my bar. This sexy athlete is too hard to resist, especially when he makes it clear how much he wants the “sarcastic, witty, hot AF” guy behind the bar - also known as me. Still, I’m not keen on breaking my own rules since I know where that can lead - no place good.

Publisher's Summary
Michael:
Two years ago, I made a mistake, a big one. Then I added a couple more just for good measure. I screwed up my life, but I survived. Now I have the opportunity for a fresh start. Two years in NZ. Away from the LA gossip, a chance to breathe, to rebuild my life. But I’m taking a new set of rules with me.
I don’t do relationships.
I don’t do commitment.
I don’t do white picket fences.
And I especially don’t do arrogant, holier-than-thou, smoking hot K9 officers who walk into my ER and rock my world.
Josh:
One thing for certain, Dr. Michael Oliver is an arrogant, untrustworthy player, and I barely survived the last one of those. He might be gorgeous, but my daughter takes number one priority. I won’t risk her being hurt, again. I’m a solo dad, a K9 cop and a son to pain-in-the-arse parents.
I don’t have time for games.
I don’t have time for taking chances.
I don’t have time for more complications in my life.
And I sure as hell don’t have time for the infuriating Dr. Michael Oliver, however damn sexy he is.

excellent I want more!
5 Blue Roses
4 Blue Flames
Narrator Gary Furlong gathered the blocks and stacked them much higher than expected, totally exceeding his milestones and scattering all my preconceived notions into oblivion. This was an excellent example of a perfect delivery. His voice is easy to listen to. The Australian and American accents were easy to understand but still gave an authentic experience. He gave each character a fitting voice. Listeners will enjoy the excellent smoldering hot, and toe-curling love scenes.
He was able to create and carry tension and drama throughout the whole book. Leaving me energized, inspired, and hoping for more high adrenalin moments.
This was the most delicious 10 hours of mystery, action, love, comedy, and drama. The protagonists are both extremely likable men. They are sexy heroes in their own rights. I did not get the feeling that one of them is an idiot or less than. I connected emotionally with both main characters, but Michael was my favorite, I felt his pain and suffering. He came across as a highly intelligent Physician who loves his patients, and after he lost one, he spiraled out of control. The author wrote the hospital scenes well researched impressing me with the correct medical terminology.
Lots are happening in this audiobook with surprises and endings that are not predictable. The characters are extremely well rounded and the whole world was vividly be seen in my mind’s eye.
I can not wait for the second audiobook in this series. I absolutely recommend this one!

Very enjoyable story and top notch narration
This was a very enjoyable read/listen (had both the Kindle edition and audio going for most of the book because I am weird that way. Loved the dialogue/banter between the characters and was audibly laughing in many places as the story progresses and by the end of the story I was so very happy with their HEA.

What can I say....Gary Furlong narrating is awesome. He’s truly outstanding. The story line has action mixed with angst. I didn’t feel the connection of the two MCs in the beginning but as the chapters went on that changed. Absolutely loved the story and ending.

I will listen to anything Mr. Furlong performs
I really liked this book when I read it so listening to it was a no-brainer, especially when I found out who was performing it. I will listen to anything Mr. Furlong performs.
-------------------------------
Here is my original review of the book after reading it.
4.5 Stars so rounding up to 5.
I’m impressed with this first-time author. The story moved at a good pace…the romance and the suspense. I liked all of the characters (except Josh’s parents), flaws and all.
Michael is a bit of a mess after trauma in his hospital in the States and after reading the opening scene he doesn’t appear to have much under control still. He’s a good guy but he’s buried that and gives the world his devil may care attitude. He’s immediately attracted to Josh but Josh wants nothing to do with him. Unfortunately for Josh, they’re forced to be around each other…and they cannot deny the sexual attraction and chemistry. When they finally give in to their attraction they’re fantastic together. I didn’t like their lack of communication about their true feelings (I never like that in any book) and I thought Michael was a huge coward near the end of the book. Thankfully Josh took over and fixed everything. :)
The suspense plotline was good and not over the top…there was even a late twist which surprised me (and that’s not easily done). I really, really nope Mark and Cam get books…they are both REALLY outstanding. The ending is pretty perfect!
My one complaint surrounds Michael and him being an American (and I’ll admit it’s a bit nitpicky). I suppose it’s possible Michael picked up the dialog and slang in the time he’d been in NZ, but he definitely didn’t sound like he is from the States.
This is definitely a must-read by an author that should be on your radar!

Come for a story, stay for the performance.
I loved this book. I consume MM romance like its going out of fashion so I do tend to get bored with the standard tropes and humdrum story lines. There's nothing particularly special about this story line. It's your standard boy meets boy, falls for boy, conflict, breakup, resolution storyline. It is, however, very well written. The characters are well developed and interesting. The relationship feels real and developed enough to not feel contrived. It also has that laconic feel that kiwi people have which feels less fake than some American writers.
The narration is top notch and the NZ accent is pretty good (although I'm Aussie so it could be worse than I think). There is some muddying of accents around the interchange between the American and Kiwi accent but it's generally not too bad. Only criticism is that the narrator reads in a kiwi accent even when the story is written from the POV of the American character.
All in all a well written story with a stellar performance.
I'll be following up both the author and narrator for other books.

Great start to the series!
Loved the storyline, emotion, snark, and characters. Backstories of the MCs really fortified the plot. Excellent supporting cast and interesting world. Jay Hogan is always good for all the feels! Really love Gary Furlong’s narration, but the American accents were a little cringey…only downside to this book, and definitely not a deal-breaker.

MM Crime Drama
If you are looking for an enemies to lovers with a lot of action and craziness going on, look no further. There was a lot going on in this book, and some was predictably hard to grasp, as it was difficult to get your head around this happening. I did really enjoy it though, and the relationship and character growth throughout was spot on. Also, the fact that Greg Furlong was on this narration made it that much better. You have Michael, the American doctor who is in NZ for a brief period who finds himself in quite a bad place when he meets Josh, the dog handler (K9 detective). Josh immediately takes a dislike to Michael, as he has previous bad experiences with his "type." So, of course this means Michael wants to pursue him even harder; however, he really doesn't, so that was actually quite refreshing. They do meet up again because a bunch of crazy stuff happens to Michael, and that is when the friends with benefits starts up for really frenemies with benefits. And of course it turns to more, but it well done. Then there is the inevitable breakup and makeup, but all in all I really enjoyed the storyline with the MCs and all the side characters. What I did not love was all attacks on Michael, as it just was a bit much. Overall a great read, and I cannot wait to continue on with the rest of this series.

I like it
First off I have to say the cover of this book did nothing to make me want to read it. Is this the best the author could come up with? I did like Michael and Josh a doctor and detective. Their meeting was funny but the relationship was are we or aren’t we. They had a great connection between the sheets but other circumstances kept them from committing.

New Zealand here I come.
without giving a detailed synopsis, this delightful story and a perfect narration to boot, held my interest through to the end and I could have listened for hours more.
We have characters in conflict who become lovers; criminals who threaten lives, disapproving parents to mollify as weii as breakups and separations.
All these things are handled in ways that hold our interest and concern for their outcome. So for me Jay Hogan's story pressed all my buttons., and hope tob"read" more in this series.
