Publisher's Summary

Number one Sunday Times best seller.

No one is born a leader. But through sheer determination and by confronting life’s challenges, Ant Middleton has come to know the meaning of true leadership. In First Man In, he shares the core lessons he’s learned over the course of his fascinating, exhilarating life.

Special forces training is no walk in the park. The rules are strict, and they make sure you learn the hard way, pushing you beyond the limits of what is physically possible. There is no mercy. Even when you are bleeding and broken, to admit defeat is failure.

To survive the gruelling selection process to become a member of the elite, you need toughness, aggression, meticulous attention to detail and unrelenting self-discipline - all traits that make for the best leaders.

After 13 years' service in the military, with four years as a Special Boat Service (SBS) sniper, Ant Middleton is the epitome of what it takes to excel. He served in the SBS, the naval wing of the special forces, the Royal Marines and 9 Parachute Squadron Royal, achieving what is known as the ‘holy trinity’ of the UK’s elite forces. As a point man in the SBS, Ant was always the first man through the door, the first man into the dark and the first man in harm’s way.

In this fascinating, exhilarating and revealing book, Ant speaks about the highs and gut-wrenching lows of his life - from the thrill of passing Special Forces Selection to dealing with the early death of his father and ending up in prison on leaving the military - and draws valuable lessons that we can all use in our daily lives.

Everyone should read

The author is blunt and honest. Using examples from his own life he teaches healing and personal growth. Anyone who wants to detect their growth should read it.

Hard not to love Ant Middleton

I haven’t gave 5 stars because I secretly wished I wrote this book, nor because I’m fascinated about his positivity among chaos, nor because he is telling the truth about the armed forces. I gave him 5 stars because he is “real”. Real with himself since it’s his life, but real with the outcome of his tribulations. Ant Middleton is not an Instagram influencer, not a pre Madonna TV chef.. he is exactly what it says on the front of the book “the first man in”. There is a lot to learn from this book and I cannot wait to read some more about Ant Middleton.

Disappointing

Ant is a little full of himself. I thought he would be a little humble like several other Special Forces people I have met. Tought to listen to him go on about how tough he is. very disappointed.

Leader, more like a lost sheep

This Book starts ok and then just turns into a joke.

He seems to think he can do whatever he wants and there should be no consequences to his actions.

Leaders and good people in general and take full responsibility for what happens in there life and this guys thinks he's just god's gift 🤣.

You think you can just go around bullying people and nothing will happen to you?

This is what I take from your book: You think you know it all and you can palm of your bad behaviour on a so called switch that you have no control over. Take responsibility for your actions and take a some time to listen to good people and you know what you'll maybe learn something and rethink that hard man attitude.

overall good book

Great book probably a little more for men with military background, or if you at least like learning about those types of people. The book is mainly a timeline of the authors life and lessons he's learn along the way.

Enlightening, Instructive, Brilliant!!!

#TheThinkingSoldier. Ant Middleton takes us in to his mindset. A Master Class in strategy employed to meet with successful ends. Ant shows why wisdom (its citadel being the mind) is better than strength as an ancient Proverbs says (Ecclesiastes 9: 16)🧠>💪🏾
