Publisher's Summary
So you've made it to Valhalla. Now what?
This "who's who" audio guide to the gods, goddesses, and other important figures of Norse mythology was commissioned by Helgi, who, after more than a millennium as manager of Hotel Valhalla, became fed up with answering the same questions from newly deceased heroes at check-in. The profiles provide essential stats, interviews, and personal reflections so you can identify the gods and avoid those awkward introductions. Handy facts about other beings round out this go-to audiobook. You'll never see Ratatosk as a cute little rodent or confuse a dwarf with an elf ever again!

Great background to the Norse Myths; bad narration
My now 14 year old and I have listened to all the Riordan books on audio. We were really looking forward to this; unfortunately, we found this to be the worst of his narrators. The narration here was so bad that it was hard to focus on the underlying stories. It felt more choppy than his other "nonfiction" myth books (Greek Gods and Greek Heroes) but that could have been the rushed, clipped, overly sarcastic narration.
My disappointment was increased since this book was really needed to explain the Norse myths, which were less familiar to me than the Greek and Roman ones he's previously set stories with.
I realize this is a "name" actor, but not all actors make good narrators.

not my cup of mead
Horribly written. It's written like a play. He said she said he said, back and forth, most of the time. The writer tried too hard to be cool by saying phrases with "hashtag" attached to them. Maybe the writer is trying to appeal to young generations, but I find it annoying. Sounds like a teenager wrote it.

Not for adults
I hated this book. But don’t let that stop you from reading it. There are likely many 12 year-olds that find it interesting.

Loved the writing, the narrator seemed a little too serious
I really love all writing by Rick Riorden, but I have to say that the narrator made the casual, humorous story a little too serious for my taste. The writing was great and I love the idea of teaching ancient myths in this wonderful way. But it is a better read than listen, and does not really have a storyline, so if that is what you were expecting you would be disappointed.
