À propos de cet audio

In the Celestial Empire, a land ruled by Immortals and stalked by Spirits and Beasts, a young girl from the slums of an unimportant city is found to have the Talent that may allow her to become an Immortal herself.

Sent to the storied Argent Peak Sect to harness her talent, she must work desperately to catch up to peers who have been preparing to walk the Way for years. The Sect grants new students only three months to prepare and grow before the true challenges begin and the disciples are freed to battle each other for resources and strength.

Contending with tests, strange teachers, unfriendly peers, and her own ignorance, Ling Qi must not only defeat many obstacles, but find those willing to stand at her side when the truce ends.

Can she learn to not only survive, but thrive on that journey?

Inspired by ancient folklore, modern martial arts, and Xianxia, this fantasy novel offers a mixture of life and action while developing a world both fantastic in setting yet familiar in the humanity of its inhabitants.

This fantasy novel is unique and offers the readers a fulsome magical realm with a young protagonist. The cutthroat environment of the magic school is both interesting and exciting.

Students vie for supremacy in the midst of ongoing school challenges.

The novel in it in itself has some unevenness in its structure with an over abundance of exposition at the onset, but this gives way as the novel picks up into a page turning romping action.

The unique names for an english language novel gives the story colour and adds to the overall story and character.

If you enjoy training stories and world-building with complex magic systems this book is for you. If you don't have a decent ear for Chinese names and tend to think many of them sound alike because of it, I suggest you keep a character list to keep track of who is who. The story is otherwise easy to follow, but I wish I had been doing that from the beginning as most of the characters end up important at some point. Don't forget the East Asian naming convention of surnames being first and given name second, either-- that will help you keep track of relationships as well. And if you can't handle that then do read the book or at least have the courtesy not to blame your ignorance on the writer unlike one reviewer who complained "English names" should have been used. *rolling my eyes* I can't imagine thinking a book based on Asian cultures should be more Anglo-centric. Ridiculous.

Great narration by Natalie Nadus as usual.

Great Training Fantasy

I picked this book by chance when it came across my recommendation feed. So far I find myself enjoying the story, though I can admit it might not be for everyone. I love the different characters and the political intrigue. I also like the magic system, which is rich and complex. That being said a large portion of this book finds our character in cultivation. In many ways this is an extended training arc, which is not everyone’s cup of tea. I didn’t mind but some people might find it repetitive. That being said, I’m giving this a pretty high review because bottom line, this is my review and I found it enjoyable.

Enjoyable

This is an incredibly well written cultivation journey and well worth the credit. I’m on my second listen now. It’s actually sad that one of the reviews is negative because of a Chinese fantasy genre having Chinese names for its characters? That is a very strange and incredibly culture sheltered reason to leave a bad review on an excellent book.

This series is incredible and a step above others in its Genre

First volume was included with my audible membership. Then I had to buy more credits to get the rest, as I couldn't wait for a month to find out what happens next.

Like the title says, Yrsillar crafts a whole world to explore through the fresh eyes of Ling Qi. The evocative writing and brilliant narration combine to make Ling Qi's journey a magical thing.

If you liked the Cradle series by Will Wight, give these books a try.

A fresh take on a stale genre
