Publisher's Summary

Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Yarros

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

Tairn’s voice is all wrong.

I enjoyed this performance and story, but Tairn’s voice was just wrong. It seems like they were going for more of a wise advisor sound than no nonsense grumpy curmudgeon.

Great performance

I really enjoyed listening to this book and I thought the story was well written. I wish the book wasn’t split into two parts but it’s worth the credits, in my opinion. I couldn’t stop listening!

Tairns Voice

I love this book so much reading it and now listening to the dramatized version i knew i’d do it as i did with acotor how ever i always read it with Tairns voice being much deeper and almost raspy or like had a lot of power behind it and i didn’t feel as though the actor in this one properly projected the beast and his strength

Story and voice actors were amazing.

I loved the story and the voice actors! The cinematographic version of this audio book was so worth it.

I loved it!

I LOVEEED listening to this book. I'm a huge fan of fourth wing and I've read it myself many times, I wanted to listen to it but I didn't like the voice of the non dramatized version. This version is perfect, I love how it plays a movie in your head.

Highly recommend!

Had me hooked

This is the first audio book I’ve ever listened to it and I’m really pouty because I feel like this just set the bar that will be hard for others to live up to.
I purchased the book on my kindle to finish but I think I’m gonna need to listen to the part 2 when it releases.
I’d listened to so many samples of other audiobooks in the past and wasn’t inclined to try any out until I stumbled across this. The background music, sound effects, character voices and expressions went way beyond what I imagined they would. 10/10 Highly recommend!

Epic!!

The voice actors were incredible! I’d read the story prior to listening and knew I wanted to listen to the dramatized adaptation after doing the same process with the ACOTAR series.

I’m so glad I did and I can’t wait for part 2!!!!!

Absolutely loved!

I loved the whole experience. The book had a great story and did well with building characters. The Dramatic version really enhances the experience and feel like your listening to a movie.

The voices are so OFF

The voice actors for key players like xaden, jack Barlow, and Tairn are so weak for the characters. It ruins what could have been an incredible dramatized version.

Disappointed by GraphicAudio

I waited for MONTHS for this to release because I LOVED Graphic Audio’s ACOSF by SJM. But this is… Bad. Sad. And I stopped listening ~1 hour in.

The sound effects don’t match the scenes, the characters aren’t portrayed how they’re clearly written, and the casting is just… wrong!

For example (this tipped me over the edge of turning it off) — Violet is monologuing about the dragons coming to formation after parapet and there’s like 30 seconds - 1 minute of running noises for a cadet that is supposed to be making a short sprint across the courtyard before he gets roasted by a dragon BEFORE Violet has even gotten to the part where the Cadet is running? It ruins the story and kills the vibe of the book as a whole.

I agree with others that Rhiannon is overplayed and theatrical, almost ditsy and silly, when her character is actually a badass. Bummer.

While I don’t have production skills to produce a version of my own, what plays in my head when I read is MUCH more believable than THIS!

I really was looking forward to hearing the Graphic Audio version but I am very sadly disappointed and wish I didn’t spend my money. Do yourself a favor and skip this version AND the normal version of this book (it has its own issues) and use your imagination.

Horrible casting and performances

The casting is terrible and the background sounds don’t really match up with the story/ setting. It isn’t up to the quality of other graphic audio books (sitcom style laugh tracks that just sound weird)- overall the production seems cheap and miscast.

Still Love the story, but....

The male character voices of Zayden and Tairn just don't do it for me. They were actually portrayed better by the female voice in the original audible book recording. Violet's voice still works though. The male characters just aren't menacing enough.

Poor casting

I have read fourth wing 4 times and love the story it is one of my favorites but the casting was wayyyy off on all the voices but Violet! ACOTAR did such a beautiful job with their graphic audio that I expected that same level of expertise but it felt rushed and off. And Xadens voice actor is also the voice actor of Lucien in ACOTAR and was so hard to separate the two! It felt snarky not cool and collected as he’s portrayed in the book! I was so excited for this but was let down ultimately!

The voices broke my fantasy

Xaden and Tairn NEED to be switched out! Xaden needs to be deeper and husky (and not from Boston) and Tairn is a grumpy elder who’s the strongest dragon “ever” (IF spoiler). Please for the love of all things fiction, change these actors!

Great voice choices!

The only voice I didn’t like was Violets sisters which sounds more like AI than an actual person.

Who approved this? Poor casting (excluding Violet)

After having listened to the entire file I have a few things I would like to share, both positive and negative. Starting with the negative (so we can end on a positive note): Xaden’s voice drove my insane, and not the good kind of insane that initially made me fall in love with his character. Xaden’s voice actor is obviously talented but he was casted COMPLETELY wrong. His interpretation of Xaden is pretentious, annoying, and as if EVERY SINGLE LINE he had he was trying to prove himself - which is absolutely at odds with how Xaden’s character is portrayed in the first book. Xaden is laid back, confident, and sensual - this voice actor was anything but and sadly missed the mark. His tone and pronunciations made me pause the book multiple times just to get a break. And as far as chemistry goes in audiobooks him and Violet had below zero. Truly an extreme let down - he would’ve done great in a voice role as Dain or maybe Brennan but not daddy Xaden. Plus, Rhiannon’s performance fell flat too. I get she was trying to sound like the cool best friend but it all seemed so forced and theatrical like they were trying sooooooo hard - it made me physically cringe a couple times. Furthermore, Tairn’s performance was weak. In summation it was autotune slapped over a male voice. It was really disappointing. Tairn is a century year old dragon who is known to be wise and cunning, his voice showed anything but the hearty depth one would expect. Not too fond of Andarna’s either - she’s supposed to be a child!!! So why does it sound like a woman is voicing her? Again: slapping on auto tune over her voice won’t make it better. My last negative comment would be the use (and timing) of sound effects was completely wack. Wack-a-doodle. Wack-a-wack-wack-wack. I think my iMovie on my Mac 2009 had more realistic sound bits. Some of the background “noise” or “chatter” just hurt my ears or made no sense at all - like the timing was off. Not to mention, when there was distance between characters, you would have trouble hearing the “farther” character. I could barely hear one of my favorite lines from the book “get back to bed before your wing leader finds you out past curfew” it was barely audible….. Now, for the good stuff. Violets voice actor absolutely KILLED IT!!! I mean oh my goodness!!! She completely embodied a 20 year old woman navigating the politics of a war camp while establishing a foundation of believing in herself and figuring out what it is she wants, and who she is. I absolutely loved listening to Violet narrate and I think this voice actor did an amazing job!!!! Not naggy or annoying, just straight up Violet Sorrengail. So thank you for making her character come to life in this new way. I also loved some of the supporting cast like Ridoc, Professor Devera, Mira, Lilith Sorrengail, Dain (he did an amazing job as well… almost wish the voice portrayal of Dain and Xaden was switched to be honest), and others. I also liked that they included the footnotes/quotes as listed with each chapter. I love this series. Fantasy and Romantasy are such fun genres that mean so much to me as a book reader…. With that being said I hope this review can bring light to some changes that need to be looked into in order for the rest of this graphic audio series to flourish.. especially if fans are expected to pay for what seemed like a half ass rendition of a great book. Leaving me with my initial question, who approved this publication? And can they please look into ways to improve these issues?
