Bitter But Possibly Sweet

I've been an entrepreneur for 30+ years and have owned independent small business and franchises. Given the choice, I would encourage people who are not risk takers to go into franchising and due diligence.
I feel the author has presented a cynical and lop sided perspective of franchisors, possible because that's the only bad business deals he has come across in his brokerage or he hasn't explored any more franchise systems other than restaurants or what seems from the tone is that he still holds a bitterness from a personal past franchise experience.
Much of the value of franchising has been overshadowed by extreme outlier examples or possible a lack of understanding of the inner perspective of a franchisor.
That said, if the intent was to exclusively paint all franchisors as crooks and sneaky business people, then the book deserves a five star.
