Story
We tend to think of meditation as a formal practice we block time out for each day. But what if every moment of your life was your meditation? For Eckhart Tolle, meditation shouldn't be approached as a chore or a means to an end. Rather, meditation is something that you live. "The aim of meditation," states Eckhart, "is that it eventually becomes your normal state of consciousness." Essential Meditations with Eckhart Tolle points the way toward this quiet, constant state of Presence - where practice gives way to the realization of your innermost identity.

In these insightful lectures - including many simple practices - he shows us how our grievances are reactions to the artificial egos of others, how to bring nonjudgment and equanimity when others overstep our boundaries, how to forgive our own “past selves”, and what to do when the pain of our memories hijacks our emotions.

Story
In A New Earth, renowned spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle describes how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. The purpose of this book is to bring about a shift in consciousness, or in his words, an awakening. An essential part of this awakening is the recognition of the ego, and our attachment to things, the past, and enemies. In Oneness with All Life, Eckhart Tolle has picked the essential phrases and paragraphs - the gems of the book - that he feels are most important and reorganized them so listeners can focus on the most powerful ideas.

Story
To be human is to suffer - and yet, according to Eckhart Tolle, all of these painful moments contain an opportunity for awakening. In Transforming Suffering into Peace, this celebrated teacher offers a new perspective on the ego and what he terms "the pain-body" - all the accumulated emotional wounds that follow us through life. Though the pain-body can easily rise up and hijack our consciousness with unpleasant emotions, in this program Eckhart reveals a hopeful truth - by turning the light of awareness on our suffering, that suffering becomes a powerful gateway to Presence.

Publisher's Summary
This series represents an opportunity to participate in a one week retreat with Eckhart and so to go deeper into stillness - becoming one with who you are in the depth of your Being. A certain degree of spiritual maturity, however, is required of anyone wishing to participate fully in this retreat series.
What is spiritual maturity? You know the meaning of presence, not as a concept, but as a living reality. The retreat will help you to enter that dimension more deeply, to always know yourself as consciousness (rather than “this” or “that”), and to manifest this realization - your true purpose - in your daily life.

My Favorite Audio book ever
I would say that Tolle has changed my life, but he would object to that and say that presence has changed my life. Either way, My life is a better place now than before I started listening to Eckhart Tolle.
I thought that the Power of Now was my favorite book, and then I listened to the "Art of Presence" and I was hooked on listening to Eckhart conducting live retreats. He works without notes so it is different every time and it is simply amazing.
Now that I have listened to this retreat, "Freedom from the World" I name this as the best audio I have ever listened to. It is long and that is great! The longer the better.
It feels like I am in the retreat with him. I can hear the people laugh (Eckhart is quite funny) and he talks about small details like what the people are doing for an outing and when the members of the retreat will be practicing silence.
I cannot believe that I am saying this, but the retreats are even more helpful and more accessible than "The Power of Now" or "A New Earth."
I own a couple of hundred audio books and most of them are wonderful and extraordinary. But I find myself listening to Tolle every chance I get. As soon as I have finished listening to this retreat (I still have a couple of hours left) I will probably just begin listening to it all over again.
Thank you for making these Tolle retreats available. This is the power of audio. This is as good as it gets! Now I am going to get back to listening!

I love the book narrations for "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth", but I think I like this open format that Eckhart takes in this audio even more. He is such a genuine speaker and his words move me to consciousness every time I listen. Great audio, very insightful.

Wonderful
Listening to this book while being present and mindful has been a tremendously peaceful experience for me. I have found myself to be more connected and thoughtful throughout the day. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to connect with the depth of the moment and to have a deeper connection to their higher self/universe/god (Or whatever else you call this feeling of oneness in your head). This book has been very beneficial in helping me to disconnect with the pain body and to then evaluate my reactions in the moment instead of diverting to the familiar egoic reaction.

Nice While Reading Ramana Maharshi
What did you love best about Freedom from the World?
The presentation by Tolle is wonderful. As a person who has enjoyed teachings by Ramana Maharshi, this is like the cousin of the teachings in a more modern and Western environment. While some books or presentations of this type often sound like talking points issued by a Self-Help Guru, this, I sense, is based on things more Universal and deeper,
What did you like best about this story?
Subject and content as well as the really cool sense of being in the audience and listening to the talk.
What about Eckhart Tolle’s performance did you like?
I like him and how he approaches things. Words and sentences often echo other, often far more ancient, sources.

A wonderful part of my recovery
I just listen to this again and again. Slowly it sinks in, and the listening provides immediate relief. My only suggestion is that through my phones speaker, the bell is very painful because it is so much louder than the speaker. I never seem to know when it's coming, and can't turn it off fast enough.

Makes it all makes sense.
I have read/listened much on the subject of spirituality. His teachings talk to me the most. I love that there is no reaching for enlightenment. That it is within us in this present moment. We need just look for it and accept it one moment at a time. We are not humans trying to live a spiritual life. We are spiritual beings trying to live a human existence. Spirituality is our birth right and it is you we are, now. Namaste.

For fans of Tolle, a wonderful listen
Like most of his other "audiobooks," this is a recording of several days' sessions at a retreat. So much of the latter half is inspired by (mostly written) questions of retreat participants. Which is good if you're a fan of Tolle's, because it affords him an opportunity to find new analogies and "pointers" (as he calls them) to the teaching he is trying to enlighten in his listeners.
