Story
Do I Stay Christian? addresses in public the powerful question that surprising numbers of people—including pastors, priests, and other religious leaders—are asking in private. Picking up where Faith After Doubt leaves off, Do I Stay Christian? is not McLaren's attempt to persuade Christians to dig in their heels or run for the exit. Instead, he combines his own experience with that of thousands of people who have confided in him over the years to help readers make a responsible, honest, ethical decision about their religious identity.

Rachel Held Evans is widely recognized for her theologically astute, profoundly honest, and beautifully personal books, which have guided, instructed, edified, and shaped Christians as they seek to live out a just and loving faith. At the time of her tragic death in 2019, Rachel was working on a new book about wholeheartedness. With the help of her close friend and author Jeff Chu, that work-in-progress has been woven together with some of her other unpublished writings into a rich collection of essays.

Story
The headlines are clear: Religion is on the decline in America as many people leave behind traditional religious practices. In this follow-up to her critically acclaimed book Christianity After Religion, Diana Butler Bass argues that what appears to be a decline actually signals a major transformation in how people understand God. The distant God of conventional religion has given way to a more intimate sense of the sacred with us in the world.

Story
Heavily tattooed and foul-mouthed, Nadia Bolz-Weber, a former stand-up comic, sure as hell didn't consider herself to be religious-leader material - until the day she ended up leading a friend's funeral in a smoky downtown comedy club. Surrounded by fellow alcoholics, depressives, and cynics, she realized: These were her people. Maybe she was meant to be their pastor. Using life stories, Nadia uses humorous narrative and poignant honesty to portray a woman who is both deeply faithful and deeply flawed, giving hope to the rest of us along the way.

Moving us beyond the damaging idea that “being right” is the most important measure of faith, Enns’ freeing approach to Bible study helps us to instead focus on pursuing enlightenment and building our relationship with God - which is exactly what the Bible was designed to do.

The scriptures are an essential aspect of the Christian faith. But we have often equated them with the living Word himself, even elevating them above the One to whom they point. In doing so, we have distorted their central message - and our view of God. Tragically, this has caused multitudes of people unnecessary doubt, confusion, and pain in their encounters with the scriptures.

Story
Biblical womanhood - the belief that God designed women to be submissive wives, virtuous mothers, and joyful homemakers - pervades North American Christianity. From choices about careers to roles in local churches to relationship dynamics, this belief shapes the everyday lives of evangelical women. Yet biblical womanhood isn't biblical, says Baylor University historian Beth Allison Barr. It was born in a series of clearly definable historical moments.

Publisher's Summary
The award-winning author of Grateful goes beyond the culture wars to offer a refreshing take on the comprehensive, multi-faceted nature of Jesus, keeping his teachings relevant and alive in our daily lives.
How can you still be a Christian?
This is the most common question Diana Butler Bass is asked today. It is a question that many believers ponder as they wrestle with disappointment and disillusionment in their church and its leadership. But while many Christians have left their churches, they cannot leave their faith behind.
In Freeing Jesus, Bass challenges the idea that Jesus can only be understood in static, one-dimensional ways and asks us to instead consider a life where Jesus grows with us and helps us through life’s challenges in several capacities: as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence.
Freeing Jesus is an invitation to leave the religious wars behind and rediscover Jesus in all his many manifestations, to experience Jesus beyond the narrow confines we have built around him. It renews our hope in faith and worship at a time when we need it most.

Authentic, Transparent, Marvelous !
Ms. Bass tells a story that if your Christian will relate to your own life at at least one juncture. Her skill in retelling memories with important experiences that shaped her faith gives the book a relevancy to any God seeker. She embodies the American Protestant then Evangelical, then Orthodoxy and finally Freedom that Jesus promises. This book is a must for those who may be struggling with faith and those wanting to find camaraderie in a life seeking truth at any cost. As a man who has seen through the traditional patriarchal injustices and damage to the wholeness and wholesomeness that God’s love intends. I appreciate that this book is important for men to understand and direct hope for those people who are women and those who are non-white that their voice has always mattered to God and the world is finally noticing too. It all matters. Jesus is laughing with joy ! <3

Beautiful!
This is a beautiful book! Thank you to the author for searching your heart and Christ everywhere. Thank you for placing words to what I already know but at times seem to loose the words to describe. Spiritual/theological memoir is a term I needed to know.

A Worthwhile Read Despite Lengthy Chapters
I had the pleasure of reading this book in a church group setting and found it quite enjoyable at the beginning. However, I have to admit that chapters 5 and 6 were a bit long-winded and caused me to lose interest in the book. Unfortunately, it seems that some of my fellow group members may have experienced the same, as attendance dropped off after those chapters. Despite this, I do believe that the book is still worth reading. If you do choose to read it, just be aware that chapters 5 and 6 are quite lengthy. Overall, I found the book to be a worthwhile read and recommend it to others.
