Publisher's Summary

Jaxxon Carter, barmaid, would like nothing more than to better her current situation. A one-bedroomed flat, a sleazy landlord, drug-addicted neighbors - not exactly a childhood dream. When a chance encounter leads to a modelling job, she is catapulted to the peak of success. She also finds herself the focus of lethally sensual Connor McKenzie, who she hasn't seen since he left their foster home and went on to become a Formula One driver. But she has no intention of giving in to the mindless need between them. He hurt her once, and she won't allow it to happen a second time.

Confident, determined, compelling...Connor McKenzie isn't a man who deprives himself of what he wants. There was only one thing he ever resisted, and it was the one thing he wanted most: the unknowingly enticing Jaxxon. When he sees her on the cover of a magazine, it reawakens every urge he buried. She tries to keep him out of her life, but Connor can't let it go. He resisted her 10 years ago for a good reason. But now that reason is no longer there, and he's resolute that nothing - not even Jaxxon - will stop him from having her.

Disappointed

This book was a complete disappointment. The story was painfully slow moving and the main characters were extremely self absorbed and unlikeable due to this. I am usually a lover of Ms. Wright’s books, especially her shifter series. This book felt like she recycled dialogue and scenarios and used them in a non-paranormal setting. The majority of this book is filled with such extreme angst that I ended up fast forwarding through the chapters after I was halfway through the book to see if it ever ended. Unfortunately I would not recommend this book and ended up returning it.

Mixed feelings

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Emma Wilder and she did an AMAZING JOB! Great accents, decent male voice and a very convincing Jackson.

Now, the book.
What worked for me were the engaging storyline, the alpha-crazy-mad-intense male character and the sassy, sarcastic and fiercely independent female lead.
What did work was the constant switching of POV. I think it’s a trend because I ran into it before. I like it when I get to experience more than one POV, but constant going from one head to the other is dizzying and I don’t like it.

Cover art

Great story, worst cover ever. If I had judged this book by the cover, it would have been a pass.

Didn’t love this one

I'm a bit perplexed on how to rate this one. I sort of liked it, but I didn't love it.
When the author calls a female character "strong," she has to be more than a cranky, bitchy, smart mouthed, my-way-or-the-highway, fuck-you-telling-me-what-to-do kind of woman. That does not make a person strong, just rude and pretty immature, nothing strong or smart about it.
There wasn’t anything wrong with the storyline, but it just seemed to take a really long time to get to the point. Connor was fine as a character, but seriously get on with it already, we know your feelings are confusing, just man-up and accept you have feelings - stop going round and round with it. I found myself fast forwarding a lot.
I also didn’t love the reader - I hated the way Connor sounded which made it hard to listen at times.

Over coming Rags to Riches

Jaxxon Carter (sounds like Jackson)as a youth was a product of the foster system. A strong personality gives her the ability to survive the system where everyone she had ever cared about, left her behind.
One chance opportunity gives Jax an opportunity in modelling and drag her out of poverty.
VERY single Connor McKenzie and proud of it, hasn't seen Jax since he left their foster home is now a Formula One driver. He promised to come back to see her and he never did now he's back and she doesn't want to give him anymore opportunities to lie to her.

Really enjoyed this book by Suzanne Wright, Emma Wilder does a fanatic job bringing the angst and passion to life.

Liked but didn't love.
Slow start and a bit repetitive.
But Conners caveman ways made me love him while at the same time I wanted to throttle him.

Narration was pretty good.
