Publisher's Summary

From the Corner of Bad and Ass is a collection of Carrie Schiffler’s memories about growing up in welfare housing to absentee and alcoholic parents. Throughout these heart-wrenching and often-hilarious stories, we cheer her on as she fights to survive domestic violence, sexual abuse, and cycles of poverty and addiction ... all before her 18th birthday. Prepare to laugh at her attempts to earn the attention she craves and prepare to cry over the inappropriate attention she receives.

Vulnerable and honest

Healing is provided for both the reader and the author when a woman writes about her life. Little pieces here and there bring us glimpses into our own truth, struggles, and trauma. I commend Carrie for her vulnerability and raw honesty with this book. I hope this has inspired her to write more.

Knowing You

Wow.... just WOW ...... you meet someone and you think you know them. This book shows you how everyone came from something/somewhere and how different all our stories are. Carrie turned horrific into terrific. I am so proud to know this amazing woman and call her my friend. Carrie peels back the layers of her life for all to see. A must read for any woman!!!

Engaging memoir

I enjoyed the story of Carrie's early life and coming off age. I wish it would have included the next 10 or 20 years as well. There were a couple of sections where a complete line of the story was repeated immediately, with a slightly different reading, as if a second take was done, but the first take was left in. Also, the audio quality was very poor. Very echoy, boxy sound that seemed to change volume with each chapter.
