But as he led the probe into Donald Trump’s abuses of presidential power, Schiff came to the terrible conclusion that the principal threat to American democracy now came from within. In Midnight in Washington, Schiff argues that the Trump presidency has so weakened our institutions and compromised the Republican Party that the peril will last for years.

But it came as a shock when, in early 2019, she was recalled from her post after a smear campaign by President Trump’s personal attorney and his associates - men operating outside of normal governmental channels, and apparently motivated by personal gain. Her courageous participation in the subsequent impeachment inquiry earned Yovanovitch the nation’s respect, and her dignified response to the president’s attacks won our hearts.

Woodward, the number-one international bestselling author of Fear: Trump in the White House, has uncovered the precise moment the president was warned that the Covid-19 epidemic would be the biggest national security threat to his presidency. In dramatic detail, Woodward takes readers into the Oval Office as Trump’s head pops up when he is told in January 2020 that the pandemic could reach the scale of the 1918 Spanish Flu that killed 675,000 Americans.

Publisher's Summary
The instant New York Times best seller
An account like no other from the White House reporter who has known President Donald Trump for more than 25 years.
We have never seen a president like this...norm-breaking, rule-busting, dangerously reckless to some and an overdue force for change to others. One thing is clear: We are witnessing the reshaping of the presidency.
Jonathan Karl brings us into the White House in a powerful book unlike any other on the Trump administration. He's known and covered Donald Trump longer than any other White House reporter. With extraordinary access to Trump during the campaign and at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Karl delivers essential new reporting and surprising insights.
These are the behind-the-scenes moments that define Trump's presidency - an extraordinary look at the president, the person, and those closest to him. This is the real story of Trump's unlikely rise; of the struggles and battles of those who work in the administration and those who report on it; of the plots and schemes of a senior staff enduring stunning and unprecedented unpredictability.
Karl takes us from a TV set turned campaign office to the strange quiet of Trump's White House on Inauguration Day to a high-powered reelection campaign set to change the country's course. He shows us an administration rewriting the role of the president on the fly and a press corps that has never been more vital. Above all, this book is only possible because of the surprisingly open relationship Donald Trump has had with Jonathan Karl, a reporter he has praised, fought, and branded an enemy of the people.
This is Front Row at the Trump Show.
What the critics say
"Jonathan Karl gives us much more than program notes for The Trump Show in this revealing and personal account of his relationship with our 45th President. We learn what it is really like to be on the White House beat, about the peculiarities of dealing with the personality in the Oval Office, and ultimately the risks and dangers we face at this singular moment in American history." (Mike McCurry, former White House Press Secretary (1995-98), Director/Professor, Center for Public Theology, Wesley Theological Seminary)
"The Constitution is strict: It says we must have presidents. Fortunately, we occasionally have reporters as talented as Jonathan Karl - an acute observer and gifted writer - to record what presidents do. Karl is exactly the right journalist to chronicle the 45th president, who is more - to be polite - exotic than his predecessors." (George F. Will)
"No reporter has covered Donald Trump longer and with more energy than Jonathan Karl. It pays off in his account of what he calls the Trump Show with some startling scoops. What did the president scrawl across the rejected resignation letter from his attorney general? He tells us." (Susan Page, Washington Bureau chief, USA TODAY)

Not entirely without bias
An interesting story with a unique look inside, but not entirely without bias. Not to mention there are some untruths of old and new. As of late things have come to light about “Russia gate” that have Jonathan to have been either dishonest or wrong. The same can be said for his interpretation of the Ukraine incident.

Reads Like a Thriller
Outstanding work by one of the best White House correspondents of our time. It's easily as compelling as "All the President's Men," and it reads like a thriller. There are no slow spots anywhere in the narrative. Jonathan Karl has the advantage of having covered Donald Trump close up long before he became president, combined with the experience of covering Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama before Trump was elected president. Karl's observations are fair, informed and well researched. He has been meticulous in gathering inside information about specific events from multiple participants. He also is methodical in laying out his case to support the president's reliance on evasion, imagined facts, contradictions and blatant misrepresentations. He deals with President Trump's tirades and attacks on opponents with equal care for thoroughly sourcing each outburst and event and placing them in context. All that said, I can't honestly say that dedicated Trump supporters would find much to enjoy in the book.

Informative, entertaining and down right honest.
I have always enjoyed watching Jonathan Karl on ABC News. At times I wondered how he managed to restrain himself from wanting to attach Trump when Trump attached him. But he goes on to describe the Trump show for what it is so instead of getting mad Karl has learned not to be baited by Trump.
The book covers a lot of the news stories you have seen on TV. What is going on behind the curtains and the things you don’t see. One of the interesting stories is of the cameraman at the rallies and how Trump tries to bait him.
I purchased the Kindle version for reference but the Audible version has the sound tracks which reinforce the story. A must listen.

When The Trump Team went into Prevent D mode & did not debate Ted Cruz & my conservative legends in my mind rolled over & endorsed Trump I turned off radio, tv, news for 3 1/2 yrs. Lost myself in books on history, health & fitness. I have learned alot more about history I am more fit, & have better health. When I felt I needed to know what has gone on for the past 42 months politically I jumped at this chance to listen to, Front Row & The Trump Show. Enjoyed it Immensely!
