Publisher's Summary
A dead star is headed for Earth...The shift in Earth’s orbit will unleash a new ice age...And this summer will be our last.
The news breaks - Logan Willis’s life is falling apart: he lost his job and found out that his wife is cheating on him all in the same day. Thinking that his world has ended, Logan checks into a hotel and turns on the TV to see that he's not far wrong - radio telescopes have detected mysterious signals coming from inside our solar system, and the source is moving toward us at over 500 miles per second. The media concludes that these signals must be of an alien origin. Still reeling from the news, Logan gets a phone call from his brother-in-law. Richard is talking crazy about the end of the world again, but this time he doesn’t sound so crazy.
A deadly conspiracy unravels - Meanwhile, Richard, who is an astronomer working with the James Webb Space Telescope, is at the White House briefing the president to announce what he and the government have known for almost a decade: aliens are not invading, a frozen ball of gas is. The so-called rogue star is predicted to make a near pass with Earth, disrupting our orbit and unleashing an ice age, the likes of which we haven’t seen for millions of years.
We’re putting a colony on Mars - Government insider and billionaire Akron Massey has received a steady flow of funding over the past decade for his company, Starcast, to put a colony on Mars. Over the same period he’s been using his personal fortune to create a colony closer to home where he plans to ride out the coming storm along with a thousand of the smartest people on the planet. Humanity will need seeds to plant in the ashes after the chaos clears.
And wars ignite - When the true nature of the threat becomes known, the nations of Earth prepare to fight over all the warmest parts of the planet. But as war fleets set sail and armies begin marching south, a stunning discovery is made that will change a lot more than just the weather....

Not that good
I don't understand all the positive reviews about this book. The plot was a different take on alien abductions true, but the characters were poorly written with no growth or development. There wasn't 1 character in this book with whom I could relate or even like. A bunch of bumbling idiot adults with bumbling/annoying kids. I really do not like when authors have to materialize women. The author kept repeating how beautiful Kate was throughout the entire book. Then, when Alex meets a girl, of course, she is absolutely stunningly beautiful. I won't be reading any more of this series.

Rouge Star, Frozen Planet, Invasion by Aliens
This audible covers ever possible events in this series of 2 books. Year 2022 rouge star is found and that would come close enough to change the weather on earth the coastal area would go under water and area above Texas will freeze. That sounds bad you have a very dysfunctional family who are so stupid in so many ways you want them not to make it but they do and finally the Aliens who no one saw coming and invade the planet driving all human north to freeze. Oh so much more to find out you have to listen to this audible!!

A very unique storyline.
I thought this series had a very unique storyline. These books contained elements of other scifi stories but they were well mixed in and made a very interesting read. The story is not predictable at all and there were very interesting characters. And there were plenty of twists and unexpected events. As much as I loved this series of 2 books I am glad it was only 2 books. Some stories get stretched out for many books and that can become a bit much. With this series, why mess with a good story line just to drag it out. The sign of a great artist is knowing when to put the paint brush down.

REALLY, REALLY, Bad.
The first half of the book is like the worst of the "prepper" (aka SHTF) gun fetishist, end of the world control fantasy you've ever come across. The second half seems like an attempt to set up a longer series cheesy alien robot dialog and negotiation stories.

Good, not where I expected it to go.
Flynn Earl Jones is a good narrator, has a strange peaceful monotone style. Doesn't really convey action scenes quite right but adds personality and is easy to listen to. The story was good just kinda filled with things that lacked logic or just a bit silly. like everything works out Everytime. Good story just not an apocalypse type book which it kind of portrayed itself as. Kinda like it's not sure what kind of book it wants to be. lacked the depth of books like Commune or After it happened. Good read in all, first half was the better half as it started strong then sort of went everywhere at once.. May get #2.

Captivating
This was my first book from Scott, and I was intrigued by Darth Vader's son being the narrator. I was incredibly pleased all around. Great story... well executed. You can tell Flynn is a bit green... he doesn't have the professionalism most big names have, but a few more books under his belt and he'll be a star.

"How The Hell Are You Still Alive?"
Exactly. The main characters are losers who are too stupid to live. The only reason they don't die is that this is a fictional book and the antagonists aren't much better. Despite repeated events which proved their stubborn and ignorant opinions incorrect, the main characters kept repeating the same mistakes over and over. Though the plotline was interesting, it was agonizing to listen to the characters repeatedly not take serious situations seriously. It was difficult to like these characters. They were two dimensional and boring as people. I developed no connection to them and didn't care what happened to them at all. The military was portrayed as aggressive but dumb, and mostly incompetent. Plus, there's a lack of usable knowledge by the author - and subsequently the characters - regarding weapons, tactics, the military, and quite frankly, common sense. Characters routinely forget to lock doors, ask prudent questions, gather important information, take obvious action for self-defense or even comprehend the danger they were in. There is a never-ending shock and dismay by the characters that anyone could actually want to own a weapon or know how to use it. The narrator for this book has a depressing quality to his voice, which made all of the characters sound depressed all the time. Additionally, his intonation was always off (adding to the depressed quality) and never properly conveyed the emotions of the situation. Overall, I'm not sure how this author is a "USA TODAY Bestselling Author," as his writing style isn't very good: the dialogue isn't realistic, character actions are nearly implausible in some cases and wholly unbelievable in others, and the emotions and thoughts of the characters throughout the book seem very odd, disjointed, or out of place. I could go on about the numerous annoyances, like those above, but suffice to say this book has issues. If it weren't for the fact I only paid a couple of bucks for this book, and its sequel, I would have stopped listening and returned it, as it's certainly not worth a credit. As it is, for two bucks, I'll listen to both, just to see where the science fiction thread goes.
