Watch out for the recipe

I've enjoyed all the Hannah books I've read/listened to. The narrator does a good job with the voices. I wish they had added a note that the last recipe (for fudge cupcakes) had an error. It is corrected during the story in the next book, but that was too late for me. I had cupcake batter ALL over my oven. The recipe called for baking SODA instead of baking POWDER. Beware all recipe testers!

Sorry to say...

This is the first title I've read by this author, and I admit to being quite disappointed. The characters are all immature in behavior, the dialog is very predictable, and the author has an annoying habit of explaining in detail things that are obvious to the reader/listener. I can't recommend this to serious mystery readers. The culprit is clear to the listener very early in the book.

Great Book

Enjoyed this book very much. This was one they turned into a movie "Murder She Baked: Just Desserts" on the Hallmark Movie and Mystery channel. Loved the movie too. I really love the books they give you more back ground than the 2 hour movie, yet the movie stays close to the book. However, there is a small twist at the end of the book with this one. Nope, no spoiler alert here...you will have to watch the movie and read to book to discover it for yourself.

Love this series. Highly recommend if you enjoy clean murder/mystery books. Also recommend the series for the cookie recipes. 😀

Yummy good mystery

The ‘cupcake’ of a simmering romance with the super sweet ‘frosty’ murder mystery’ is delicious with numerous ingredients of hometown personalities. Delightful!

Enough Already...

I actually like the stories, but at this point in the series, I'm over the boyfriends. Like, "Girl, you can't be getting mad at one guy who appears to be moving on while you're dating two men."

Fudge Cupcake Murder synapse

Spoiler:

Fudge Cupcake Murder synapse: Chop Shop canceled by careening cupcakes.

I really enjoyed all of the throw backs to earlier mysteries in the series.

When they made for TV movies are better than the books

At least in the cheesy movies the Hannah character is likable. These books are so strangely written. Why is the main character so smug? Does anyone actually like her? If so, why?

I wanted to give this book to my husband to read as an example of how women are trained to lie and manipulate throughout life instead of learn to talk about what they need. The way Hannah manipulates men and her mother, instead of using her words, is damaging to women everywhere. If she’s so great with the English language, why can’t she articulate her honest emotions? So many questions, no real answers. Least of all, why is the butter melted for so many cookie recipes?

I read these books for the first time in 2007 and, listening to them now, I’m embarrassed I ever liked them. Also, is there something wrong with the water in Lake Eden (Eden Lake)? Why are the people so dumb in this book? They need everything spoon fed to them. And the idiotic attempts at humor… It’s all painful.

Reading the books, you forget Hannah isn’t a 60+ year old retired teacher named Karen who goes around arrogantly correcting people and ‘fixing things.’ She’s supposed to be a 30 year old single woman! I’m not sure the author knows what it’s like to be single and sexually active and it shows in the awkwardly prim, painful storyline.

Watch the movies instead. At least they streamline the insipid dialogue and fix the plot lines.
