Publisher's Summary

New York Times best seller

You can choose hope in the midst of chaos.

The visionary behind the million-strong IF:Gathering challenges you to exercise your God-given power to shift negative thinking patterns and take back control of your thoughts and emotions.

"A must-have resource for anyone looking to get control of their thoughts." (Lysa TerKeurst, number one New York Times best-selling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries)

Christian Book Award finalist

Named one of the Best Books of the Year by Cosmopolitan

Are your thoughts holding you captive? I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me. Jennie Allen knows what it’s like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, but she also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns.

As she discovered in her own life, God built a way for us to escape that downward spiral. Freedom comes when we refuse to be victims to our thoughts and realize we have already been equipped with power from God to fight and win the war for our minds.

In Get Out of Your Head, Jennie inspires and equips us to transform our emotions, our outlook, and even our circumstances by taking control of our thoughts. Our enemy is determined to get in our heads to make us feel helpless, overwhelmed, and incapable of making a difference for the kingdom of God. But when we submit our minds to Christ, the promises and goodness of God flood our lives in remarkable ways.

It starts in your head. And from there, the possibilities are endless.

Wasn’t clear that it would so religious

I understand that a higher power is useful when one is searching for self improvement so I was expecting some religion to be cited through the book. However, it was the main focus. I couldn’t get through chapter one because I felt like I was reading the bible. Nothing wrong with that either but it is not advertised that way, or at least it is not honest about how much of this advice relies on God.

Anyways, no biggie but it’s not for me. Thought I’d send a review in case anyone else wanted to know

Not what I was looking for

Too gospel for my blood. It just isn't for me. I was hoping for it to be more of a psychosocial approach.

Just what I needed in my time of need! I have a Choice!

One of the most powerful lines I have a choice has impacted me so much. I am an Early Childhood Educator and I teach a class of 20 little 3 year olds. We are constantly telling them that they have 2 choices. And teaching them how to manage their emotions through the Zones of Regulation. I have been teaching these things for about 8 years but it was not till this year and hearing this book that I actually realized that all I had been teaching them that I could apply to my own thought life. I have a choice too! I could choose to get angry at their behaviour or i could choose to coach them through their struggles! This book has made such a difference I can’t express my thanks enough to God for you being blessed with the gift of the task to right His truths! Love and Blessings!

God is not the answer.

The fact that it starts with God and how religion is the answer, means this book is useless. Dont bother.

Great for some

I’m sure it’s a great book, as someone who isn’t religious I found this really to be a lot for me- maybe I need to read the book description better but this was not what I had been anticipated.

Great read

Loved listening and getting so much encouragement to keep going
Life is hard and our minds get negative so we all need encouragement to keep pressing forward and to stay positive and to turn to Christ and his word

Some good but be careful

I started this book with an open heart and mind. There were some thoughts that didn’t sit right, but was finding good with the extreme…then chapter 12! Woah! Did she just say that?! After she finished attacking cynicism for a chapter, then she spoon fed this?! Woah! Careful. I had a long prayer time asking God if this was my flesh or if there were thorns in what I was hearing. I am open to correction and being wrong, but I’ve seen way to many people in the body of Christ fall prey to this way of thinking and especially women encouraged to stay small, serve quietly and be humble and grateful for the chance.
I say No. Rise up daughter of the King! You DO matter. Yes, you are called to serve, but you are also called to live life and enjoy it. This book as much as it had some good…I can’t recommend it in good conscience.

I truly got out of my head!

Jenny Allen’s writing feels personal and relatable. It offers key truths to help fight mental despair. I would highly recommend this book for anyone struggling with mental illness, or just someone wanting to live more positively.
