Publisher's Summary
When an unknown someone shoots him and leaves him to die, Harry Dresden hopes he might be heading to a better place. Unfortunately being dead doesn't make Harry's life any easier.
Trapped between life and death, he learns that his friends are in serious trouble. Only by finding his murderer can he save his friends and move on - a feat that would be a lot easier if he had a body and access to his powers. Worse still are the malevolent shadows that roam Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even in death.
Now the late Harry Dresden will have to pull off the ultimate trick without using any magic - or face an eternity as just another lost soul....

great, but sounds like an echo chamber
the story, great, but James Marsters sounds like it was recorded in a concrete bunker the echo was so bad. don't know why though. the other books he has read sound fine.

still good
not as good as other dresden but still very enjoyable. the ending comes at you from a mile away, while the book has significantly less stakes then the previous book. I would still recommend it though as a fun ride and is very well read by james marsters.

exactly the breather I needed
after the insane pace of the last two books, I took a break, bought book 12.5, listened to all but the last story. I'm still glad I did it, but if I had known what a breather this book would give me, I probably wouldn't have needed to.
yes a lot happens, yes the stakes are there, but the presentation was very different. it gave me a grounding that I needed before the action kicks up again.
looking forward to the next volume

I really enjoyed this book and how it explored the fallout of chicago without Harry in it. For me, it was about relationships not necessarily the story that I found really enjoyable.

Best thing I've ever seen a company willingly do
I listened to the previously recorded version and it was okay but Harry and Marsters are just one in the same. That is the Harry you want to spend time with.
When Audible re-recorded the book with James Marsters and then released it to fans for free - that is the most astounding thing I have seen a company / author ever do. Bravo! Way to encourage customer loyalty. This is really walking the talk.

Any additional comments?
Thank you Audible! It was an extremely pleasant surprise when Audible notify me this book was re-recorded with James Marsters. I love the Dresden Files series but it's just not the same without James's narration.

Aubible - You Guys ROCK
THANK YOU SO MUCH. Having a series interrupted by a different reader is such an unpleasant experience and this one was the worst (not because the narrator was bad, just because James Marsters is so much a part of the Dresden Files). Thank you for listening and for giving up the new recording for free, I would have happily paid for it!

Any additional comments?
WOW! I liked this book. it was missing James Marsters but hey what are the chances that he would redo a book already done? and would I be willing to buy a book again. Audible impressed me with a yes and a no. It was redone and it was a thank you gift. now that is unheard of customer care. THANK YOU!

James Marsters is irreplaceable
Even though this audiobook has already been published with an experienced, skilled narrator, and that narration is OK, I chose to repurchase this Ghost Story because I enjoy James Marsters narration. I've enjoyed his work even when I had to buy them on CD. He is after all the voice of Harry Dresden, so it seemed pleasant to have this title in his voice.
But WOW!!
I had taken James Marsters skill for granted. I had not realized his ability to give a voice to such a broad range of characters, a voice which reflects the personality of the characters as each is written, and still voice an intelligent sense of the ridiculous even in the darkest parts of the story. Of course Jim Butcher had to write these characters clearly enough to give Mr. Marsters the material to work with, and Ghost Story is a pivotal novel in the Harry Dresden story, but even with material as good as this, the other narrator did not bring it to life the way James Marsters has. John Glover did a good job, its just that James Marsters is brilliant, and the contrast is amazing.
Sorry, gushing here, about the narrator, because the book has already been thoroughly reviewed. So if you've waited to listen to the audiobook until James Marsters could read it, good move. If you have already listened to the other narrator, its worth a credit or the cash to purchase this one too.

Thanks Audible!
Would you consider the audio edition of Ghost Story to be better than the print version?
Yes. James Marsters adds an additional dimension.
What did you like best about this story?
That James Marsters is the narrator instead of John Glover! Thanks Audible for re-recording this title with JM!
Aside from that, I liked that Harry is more of a detective in this story. Also, he has to deal with what happens to and with his friends in his absence. I didn't see the ending coming, but it totally fit!
Have you listened to any of James Marsters’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes...all of his Harry Dresden as well as the Greyfriar trilogy. I personally think that Jim Butcher writes better books. I wouldn't have made it as far as I did with that trilogy if JM weren't the narrator, but that story just wasn't that good and there's only so much that JM could add.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
A number of moments because of what is going on with so many of the Scooby gang.
Any additional comments?
Again, thank you Audible for getting this re-recorded with Jim Marsters. The gaping hole in my collection is now complete!

Happy!
What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?
So happy this is now available with James Marsters as narrator. He is very distinctive and for me, it isn't really a Dresden Files book unless Marsters is reading to me.
