Publisher's Summary

Griffin

I always felt I wasn’t wired like my peers, but when my brother, Kellan, gave me three terms - ace, aromantic, and demi - I had possible names for it. Those three words have been on my mind ever since, as has my brother’s best friend, Josh Westbrook. It’s been cool getting to know him and spending time together, just us. He makes me feel something I never thought I’d be able to feel. When we end up alone in a cabin with only one bed, all my crossed wires finally connect and point toward being demi and wanting him.

Josh

Griff and I were never supposed to be more than friends, but I like him more and more. I like being the reason he smiles, and...yeah, I enjoy making him writhe with pleasure, too. But Griff doesn’t hook up casually, and I swore off love a long time ago. Still, we keep finding ourselves drawn together, a shared loneliness and a deep want guiding us. Kellan’s afraid I’ll hurt Griff. Frankly, I am, too. My past is still an open wound that keeps me from getting too close.

One thing is becoming clear, though - my Grumpy Griff is making me break my own rules. He says he’s never known his place in the world, but I do. It’s with me. The only way for us to move forward is for me to stop looking back...before I lose sight of him for good.

4.5 stars and my favorite of the series!!!

This final book of the series was also my favorite of the series. Griff and Josh were both side characters from earlier books that I was always very curious about and wanted to know their stories. They really help balance each other out, and I appreciated the depth of emotions and backstory that this book delved into.

I wasn't sure Riley Hart was going to make me love Josh. He was just such a player and seemed pretty superficial in the earlier books. But, she pulled it off. I got pretty teary at his backstory and how he handled things towards the end of the book. And Griff? Well, I always loved him all the way back from book 1.

The narration was very good. He was able to put the emotions in, particularly in a couple of scenes where it would have been distracting if they weren't there.

Some might not like the dirty talk in the book, but it was so Josh so I found it appropriate. Besides, it ends up that Griff had a dirty talk kink. ;)

It was also nice to revisit all the previous couples and get a sense of where everyone was at in their lives.

Must Read!

Damn Riley! Between this and Hard Knox, I can't pick a favorite. I hope there are more installments to this series. IDK how, but I can dream. I cried, laughed, and throughly enjoyed every minute of this and Hard Knox. You would be dumb not to read both of them.

This was a beautiful healing freeing love story.

This story broke my heart in so many pieces, though it was something that needed to happen. Thank you Riley Hart! I hope you bring back sometime not so far in the distance future the characters of Havenwood.

Sorry to see the series end

I have loved my time in Havenwood. This group of men have become special to me, and I’m sad to see the series end. I was especially looking forward to this book. Grumpy Griff is a staple in town. After his parents’ sudden death, he came home from college to look after his brother. And he’s continued to do that, even opening a bar so he could stay close to home. But Kellen found love. All of Griff’s gay friends have. And what does Griff have? A bar, a bit of loneliness, and his friend Josh. Josh who hooks up with a different guy practically every night. A guy whose Grindr app pings continuously. A guy who has his own secrets for why he doesn’t settle down.

The banter and faux animosity between the two men in the previous books caught my attention and I knew they were going to get together. But how would that work? A guy who loves sex and a guy who doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. Griff’s brother bandied about terms like asexual, aromantic, and demi-sexual, but Griff’s not sure any apply to him. Or maybe they all do.

One weekend alone in a cabin in the woods leaves the men seeing a very different side of the other.

Josh’s backstory is tragic, to be sure, but Griff presents him with an opportunity to face it, deal with it, and move on from it. Having that kind of supportive friend means everything. But there are bumps to be sure. A couple of times I wanted to smack Josh upside the head. But he came around in the end, able to acknowledge not only his feelings for Griffin, but that maybe the past was best left there.

And, of course, there was the epilogue. Seeing all the men together, happy, with some major changes in some of their lives. The truth of time marching forward. I’m so grateful Ms. Hart gave me this lovely series. And I’m also happy Kale Williams narrated these books. He does Southern very well, and is just pleasant to listen to. Another great book.

I finished but...

This book was just boring for me. I didn't get the feels I usually do from this author. I didn't connect with the characters at all until the very end.
