Story
When the Imperial prison barge Purge - temporary home to 500 of the galaxy’s most ruthless killers, rebels, scoundrels, and thieves - breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting, derelict, and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back - bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine. And death is only the beginning.

Story
On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy. Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je’daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency.

A book every halo fan needs to read
I first read this book when I was just a kid, as an adult i can't help but feel nostalgic about this universe as I continue to enjoy every story and detail about it. Halo Evolutions is an amazing collection of stories from across the Halo timeline and universe and is an essential guide to the expanded stories that halo has to offer. if you or someone you know is a Halo Fan, get them this book!

Needs a different narrator
Honestly, I feel like these stories could have been great. It's fun to hear and learn about different parts of the Halo Universe, however the narrator made it unbearable. Stuttering, voice cracking, couldn't do different voices for characters. Not worth buying unfortunately

Halo Fanboy
As a life long Halo fan I found the "tales" refreshing and exciting. I will be revisiting this book in the future for a second pass. have already recommended it to many and they have nothing but great things to say about it.

Disrespect
Most narrators did as expected and the book was mostly pleasant. That said, I dont know how these things are recorded and edited but the story Blunt instruments read by Fred Vanlenti(sp?) was performed questionably and offensive. These books are not simply read, they are performed. No one would accept a performance in which the performer did not properly portray or verbalize in a manner that supports the performance. So when Mjolnir is said like an acronym spelling it out or pronouncing the name Mgalekgolo (Hunters), Mekalekalo, it feels like a slap in the fact to fans. The least expectation is due diligence, the narrator should have been guided to read things as canonical as possible, not to mention catching nonsense pronunciations like rawr for raw (so annoying). I have not experienced these issues wide spread enough yet but should that come to pass Ill drop audible.

Some stories are amazing, others are not good
Unfortunately, some stories are phenomenal and essential for Halo lore. Others are lackluster at best. I would say about 50/50 split.
That said the ones that are phenomenal make this more than worth buying.

some audio issues but a good collection of stories
a couple stories had some skipping or cutting out but other wise was good. i enjoyed the listening of a book that would of taken me a year to finish. what was suppose to be a brake from the main halo books was turned into an amazing following of some characters and stories i will never forget.

Great In the Car
I travel a lot by car, not long distances, but 1-4hrs. This book is perfect for that. Because it's an anthology the short stories are perfect as you can finish them quickly and most of the time are finished in one drive. Also if you are a Halo fan, it's great to see other parts of the lore. Very well written and voice acted. My only complaint is I want Master Chief stories to be narrated by Steve Downes all the time thanks to this. He did a phenomenal job!

Excellent Lore
I was sucked into the halo universe in this one. The storytelling was excellent. Was surprised when Master Chief narrated himself in the middle of the book. This book is written in a way that is compelling and was much fun to listen to while doing menial tasks.
10/10 would recommend even if you don't play the game.

Hmm
Like most compilations HALO: Evolutions suffers from lousy stories/writing or good stories with lousy narration, and often the unfortunate combo of both. Nevertheless, there are a few good stories with excellent narration.
Not in the same ballpark as Fractures. Spend your credit elsewhere.
