Publisher's Summary

The New York Times best-seller - part of the expanded universe based on the award-winning video game series Halo!

The 26th century. Once considered clandestine, the Spartan-II program has now gone public. Tales of armored supersoldiers fending off thousands of Covenant attacks have become the stuff of legend. While the Master Chief defends a besieged Earth and the myriad factions of the Covenant continue their crusade to eliminate humanity, an ultra-secret cell of the Office of Naval Intelligence known as “Section Three” devises a plan to buy the UNSC vital time. It will need hundreds of willing soldiers, though - and one more Spartan - to get the job done.

The planet Onyx is virtually abandoned and the perfect place to set this new plan in motion. But when the Master Chief destroys Halo, something is triggered deep within Onyx: Ancient Forerunner technology stirs, and fleets of UNSC and Covenant vessels race to claim it and change the course of the Human-Covenant War. But this reawakened and ancient force may have plans of its own....

Good overall

Reader made everyone sound, weak, old, or fragile. All Spartans sounded like they were about to cry. Otherwise was very good

Amazing Story

Personally, I am a big fan of the HALO series, games, novelizations, etc. Mr. Davis reads this with amazingly. The voicing of different species was handled well, and I was able to tell when the perspective had switched, from human to alien, based solely on the voice acting.

pretty good

story was good as usual. the narrator was not super good at selling the world and characters tho. had a hard time getting emersed. also the narrator has no idea how to do a fake yell which almost always pulled me out of the story

Almost Perfect

Story is beautifully written, the use of music is great, but the narrator mispronounces ONI.

changes

The rewritten version of Ghosts of Onyx. Nice attempt to fix the story. For those who hadn't read the original they will not miss anything. For those of us who did will have to go through it again. All in all it's a great story, performance and tie in.

An incredible Halo story

This book is incredibly fun, man. If you're a Halo fan who enjoys the lore of the games and previous 3 books, you'll be pleased to hear that this is the most solid entry thus far. The story is gripping, the characters are memorable and worth your attention, the environments are immaculately described and nice to imagine. It's an adventure from start to finish that never feels stale, and is especially captivating if you pay attention to the dates and a couple of the cues from Halo 2. It's a great book, and Kurt is best spartan dad. If you like Halo, you'll love this.

Voice acting and story are great; probably overly loved it because I'm 'die-hard' Halo fan
