2526. It has been more than a year since humanity first encountered the hostile military alliance of alien races known as the Covenant, and several weeks after the United Nations Space Command’s devastating counterattack of Operation: SILENT STORM was deemed an overwhelming success. The UNSC has put its faith in the hands of the Spartans, led by the legendary Master Chief, John-117: enhanced super-soldiers raised and trained from childhood via a clandestine black ops project to be living weapons.

The 26th century. Once considered clandestine, the Spartan-II program has now gone public. Tales of armored supersoldiers fending off thousands of Covenant attacks have become the stuff of legend. While the Master Chief defends a besieged Earth and the myriad factions of the Covenant continue their crusade to eliminate humanity, an ultra-secret cell of the Office of Naval Intelligence known as “Section Three” devises a plan to buy the UNSC vital time. It will need hundreds of willing soldiers, though - and one more Spartan - to get the job done.

Publisher's Summary
USA Today best seller
A Master Chief story and original full-length novel set in the Halo universe - based on the New York Times best-selling video game series!
October 2559. It has been a year since the renegade artificial intelligence Cortana issued a galaxy-wide ultimatum, subjecting many worlds to martial law under the indomitable grip of her Forerunner weapons. Outside her view, the members of Blue Team - John-117, the Master Chief; Fred-104; Kelly-087; and Linda-058 - are assigned from the UNSC Infinity to make a covert insertion onto the ravaged planet Reach.
Their former home and training ground - and the site of humanity’s most cataclysmic military defeat near the end of the Covenant War - Reach still hides myriad secrets after all these years. Blue Team’s mission is to penetrate the rubble-filled depths of CASTLE Base and recover top-secret assets locked away in Dr. Catherine Halsey’s abandoned laboratory - assets which may prove to be humanity’s last hope against Cortana.
But Reach has been invaded by a powerful and ruthless alien faction, who have their own reasons for being there. Establishing themselves as a vicious occupying force on the devastated planet, this enemy will soon transform Blue Team’s simple retrieval operation into a full-blown crisis. And with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance, mission failure is not an option....

liked it, but did not love it
I am a huge Halo fan and two of the best books written in the Halo franchise are by Troy Denning. This book keeps you on your heels wondering what will happen next. Amazing writing. The things I personally enjoyed was that this book showed the Spartans are getting older, slower and can get hurt. This made the story feel more realistic (if you ignore the ability to travel light years to battle aliens). The things I really dislike in this book, is that this book deliberately had Halo Infinite content tossed in your face to promote the new game. I believe from what I have seen (what is one release of a small few minute clip) Halo Infinite look dumb and following trends. Grappling hooks looks like the dumbest thing I have ever seen added not to mention the new plasma gun, pistol, BR, graphics, ect. Both the plasma gun and grappling hook items make significant appearance in this book. it makes zero sense to have a winch and grappling hook some how on the Spartans wrists. First of all the size of one would be huge, even if you consider the rope/wire was as thin as a shoe string. A 15m long rope rolled up would be massive, even on a Spartan. this is the dumbest thing added to Halo after the Spartan 3 origins. Hook gone, bring back jump jets, especially when a massive part of the book is about the butes using jumo jets. This is not a Fast and the Furious. Over all excluding the grappling hook and Halo Infinite promotion, this book is a thrilling read and I can not wait for the next one.

A great primer for Halo infinite
action packed, yet thoughtful. an enjoyable listen, which satisfies the need for action as well as a interesting exploration of Master Chief post halo first strike. an older more experienced super soldier trying to navigate his role and Legacy in a universe which relies upon him as its hero. also, tunnel cities made out of plasma glass, as well as explosive mud shafts. what's not love.

Fantastic story and characters
I loved this story from the halo universe and has gotten me more hyped for halo infinite. This is a master chief story and is almost always on him, the pacing was great and sets the book into three main arcs that are very enthralling. All characters are memorable and flush out very well and make you care about their well being and see what happens to them even if their minor characters. The performance was very good, takes a few chapters to get used to because we know what master chief sounds like, but after that it feels natural and the voices for the banished were spot on. Overall this was a fantastic halo story and highly recommend

Great Book Read by an Awful Reader
The story was great! I can always go for more Blue Team. Troy Denning is a very talented author and it really shows in his work. 100% recommend anyone to read it themselves. Because the reader was dreadful. There was little to no emotion or engagement as he read through it, and no diversity in characters as other readers like Travis Baldry and Jonathan Davis do so well. I often found it difficult to discern which character was speaking at times simply because they all sounded the same. In closing, I definitely recommend the book but NOT the audiobook.

one of the best books since the original series!!
This was a extremely well written book returning to an action packed, no holds bar fight like the original series!! combine that with the familiar blue team, a surprise visit from another favorite crew and the usual plucky resistance who this time don't come across like suicidal idiots (most of the time). Only potential downside is that it does follow the halo formula which to a degree makes it predictable and yet despite that this book never disappoints. Only genuine gripe for me was that Kelly was given a British accent...why?? but my annoyance dissipated as I became used to her speaking in the accent and ultimately I found myself wondering what it would sound like if she always had the heavy accent in the other audio books. ultimately I stand by my ratings and heavily recommend this book to any halo fan!!

Halo: Lechatelierite.
true, i was expecting Scott or Todd, but Sean's alright, first i think I've heard him, but he's alright. the book is alright in general, can't say Troy is my favorite author, and he needs to remove lechatelierite from his vocabulary after this book, but he paints the picture well, and it doesn't feel rushed, and that's about all i could ask for in a story. Sean's performance as a narrator is excellent, perhaps unfitting of the history of other narrators, he's a bit higher voiced than I'm remembering from Scott or Todd, so deeper voices, older gravelly soldiers, brutes, elites, there a little... off, but certainly not bad, just not a deep voice. he strikes me as a younger man otherwise, it makes a number of references to the games and previous books in relation to fall of reach and uh... its been a minute, i think first strike. so an enjoyable entry overall. (Acquired book for free through free trail. worth buying for full price? yes. compared to Eric Nylund, eh, but maybe the best Troy Denning entry so far, versus oblivion and silent storm.)

Narrator makes Chief sounds like some green FNG
Should have casted Scott Brick. The story is probably good, it's just hard to continously listen to and finish it. The narrator is probably just doing his job but following Scott Brick's previous work on the series it just doesn't sound or feel right. Rather disappointing seeing how the story takes place after the disappointment that was Halo 5.

Another good Halo title!
Another solid entry in the series, and I will always be glad to get more of Blue team. Going into this, I was upset that it wasn't Scott Brick doing the reading. But Sean Hopkins quickly convinced me that he can do a Halo title justice. As for the story, it was good. I really enjoyed learning about Reach after it was glassed. There was a lot of info on the Banished. And there were some really good new side characters I enjoyed getting to know. And as always, lots of action! Overall just a good book!

Amazing New Halo Story
Great narration by Hopkins which vividly brought to life Master Chief's epic return to Reach. The narration of the Keepers and Banished characters is especially amazing, with Atriox, Escharum, and Castor all sounding as the ominous, if not terrifying, warriors that they are. Vivid descriptions of the glassed Reach were poignant, especially with the frequent flashbacks to Blue Team's past training and battles on the planet. It was easy to feel second-hand anguish of the destruction of what was effectively their home growing up. What I appreciated even more was how this story tied into the wider context of Cortana and her Guardians taking over, as well as the Banished conflict which is poised to be Master Chief's main challenge in Halo Infinite. In that way, this story only makes me anticipate the upcoming game more.
