Publisher's Summary

Narrated by Josh Peck

A wonderfully candid memoir from one of the most recognizable faces of a generation, actor, writer, Youtuber, and television superstar, Josh Peck. In his warm and inspiring book, Josh reflects on the many stumbles and silver linings of his life and traces a zigzagging path to redemption. Written with such impressive detail and aching honesty, Happy People are Annoying is full of surprising life lessons for anyone seeking to accept their past and make peace with the complicated face in the mirror.

Josh Peck rose to near-instant fame when he starred for four seasons as the comedic center of Nickelodeon’s hit show Drake & Josh. However, while he tried to maintain his role as the funniest, happiest kid in every room, Josh struggled alone with the kind of rising anger and plummeting confidence that quietly took over his life.

For the first time, Josh reflects on his late teens and early twenties. Raised by a single mother, and coming of age under a spotlight that could be both invigorating and cruel, Josh filled the cratering hole in his self-worth with copious amounts of food, television, drugs, and all of the other trappings of young stardom. Until he realized the only person standing in his way...was himself. Today, with a string of lead roles on hit television shows and movies, and one of the most enviable and dedicated fanbases on the internet, Josh Peck is more than happy, he’s finally, enthusiastically content.

Happy People are Annoying is the culmination of years of learning, growing, and finding bright spots in the scary parts of life. Written with the kind of humor, strength of character, and unwavering self-awareness only someone who has mastered their ego can muster, this memoir reminds us of the life-changing freedom on the other side of acceptance.

Loved it! Funny, emotional, raw, and healing

It was healing to hear Josh’s story. It was a raw, honest, emotional story. Yet funny and witty - it had me laughing out loud at points. As a sober person with mental illnesses I thoroughly enjoyed Josh’s perspectives and relatable mindset. I learned a lot and healed through listening to his journey all while having a good time. I highly recommend the audio because it’s him telling the story and it just takes it to another level!

An enjoyable listen

Josh has such an interesting story to tell and tells it with humor, self-awareness, and humility. He has a great voice too, so I was glad he narrated the audiobook himself.

s-PECK-tacular

I randomly stumbled upon this book. I don’t know what made me preorder it because I don’t know much about Josh, but I did and WOW! Captivating, shocking, heart-warming and relatable. It’s so incredibly well written that it’s hard to hit pause - even my partner got hooked on it during a road trip. You can’t help but love josh after listening to this, and it leaves you feeling hopeful and inspired to take on your own life. Well worth every penny - even for someone who knows very little about Josh.

I enjoyed every page!

I never watched Drake and Josh. I started following Josh in the Vlog Squad and love his podcast with Joe. This book was entertaining and makes me like Josh even more! Well done, Josh! I am rooting for ya! (P.S. I totally thought you would mention Joe! haha That's funny!)

Meh

Too many F bombs for us. We didn’t get that far into the book before we decided we heard enough.

This book is my new best friend

Just finished listening and I’m sitting here wishing I could experience this book again for the first time. The telling of the story felt so comfortable and friendly, like Josh was an old pal in a coffee shop telling me what he’d been up to, but was also packed with poignant and vulnerable and beautiful lessons that changed me and will stick with me forever. I laughed, I cried, and I learned. I wish I could thank Josh for writing this and sharing it with the world. Now excuse me while I go rewatch everything he’s ever worked on and recommend this book to everyone I meet.

I thought I knew JP..

..but after listening to Josh read his book, I realized I only know him from Drake and Josh and nothing after. This book opened my eyes to the struggles he faced as a relentlessly human individual. I feel I have a new perspective on life and loved hearing JP's side of the story from his own mouth. Great book, very down to earth and real.

ADDICTING

I wasn’t exactly sucked in the moment I began this memoir, but it happened before I knew it was happening. Suddenly, the combination of Peck’s genuine performance of his all too real story and the absurd details of his stardom had me physically shaking. I had shivers in my spine at two points! I almost cried (three times!) while listening to this at work. I’ve been looking forward to this memoir since pre-orders started and I’m so glad to have picked it up. Josh Peck is a champion for revealing his dirtiest truths and not trying to veil them with humor. Yes, he’s funny, but aware that trying to be funny to cover the grime wouldn’t work, especially on an audience who can sympathize with many of his experiences. The book’s title can be misleading (I initially thought it was going to be a silly read about his various Tweets, etc.) so I was slammed by the bold-faced events portrayed here. Definitely worth the pick up.

Underrated!

I was not very similar with Josh Peck before listening to this book, but I had just finished Jennette McCurdy’s book and this was suggested to me. I had seen Drake and Josh as a kid/young teen but that’s about it. I did not expect this to be such an incredible book. An absolute must read especially for any creatives trying to survive in our culture. His perspectives on his own upbringing and parenting are very relatable to those raised by single parents. I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone and it made me a huge fan!

A side of Josh I would have never know

Overall the book was an easy listen, finished it in a plane ride home haha. Like most I grew up watching Josh. I always wondered what happened to him after “Drake & Josh” and how he ended up with a YouTube career. Two years ago, I discovered him on YouTube and it brought back that “home” feeling when you see a familiar face.
I throughly enjoyed this book and I’m glad Josh decided to release it!!

This book was thoroughly enjoyable.

This book had some great stories. Struggles and joy, ups and downs and was very well written. I literally never lost focus throughout the entire book. I was immersed the entire time.

Great writing, and very personal, which made it super relatable. Thanks, Josh. You pulled at all the heart strings.

Also, I didn’t know you had a book until you were on The Genius Life podcast, so I’ll send a thank you to Max as well 😂 looking forward to hearing about your wood ranch adventures, also looking forward to another book someday!

JP

I ended up listening to this book read by you, and I guessed it, the author, Josh Peck. I am in my 30s and grew up watching Jake and Josh, and I watch a lot of movies, so I've seen all of Josh's movies and TV shows. This book was incredibly great, it was funny, sad and I was able to relate to many things that Josh has been through mainly having a single mom and a dad that doesn't really matter and being a recovering addict. I will listen again when I need to hear a friend's voice in my ear. It is a short read/listen, and I highly recommend it.

Good job!

I was born outside of the “Drake and Josh” phenomenon. Too old for the show and no children to introduce me to the characters. Actually, I purchased the book due to it’s title. (Never underestimate a good title, and yes, I often find overly happy people annoying.)
What I discovered is a memoir that was self-reflective without becoming egotistical, snarky with an upbeat ending. Good job.
