Publisher's Summary

A wonderfully candid memoir from one of the most recognizable faces of a generation, actor, writer, YouTuber, and television superstar, Josh Peck. In his warm and inspiring book, Josh reflects on the many stumbles and silver linings of his life and traces a zigzagging path to redemption. Written with such impressive detail and aching honesty, Happy People are Annoying is full of surprising life lessons for anyone seeking to accept their past and make peace with the complicated face in the mirror.

Josh Peck rose to near-instant fame when he starred for four seasons as the comedic center of Nickelodeon’s hit show Drake & Josh. However, while he tried to maintain his role as the funniest, happiest kid in every room, Josh struggled alone with the kind of rising anger and plummeting confidence that quietly took over his life.

For the first time, Josh reflects on his late teens and early 20s. Raised by a single mother and coming of age under a spotlight that could be both invigorating and cruel, Josh filled the cratering hole in his self-worth with copious amounts of food, television, drugs, and all of the other trappings of young stardom. Until he realized the only person standing in his way...was himself. Today, with a string of lead roles on hit television shows and movies, and one of the most enviable and dedicated fanbases on the internet, Josh Peck is more than happy - he’s finally, enthusiastically content.

Happy People are Annoying is the culmination of years of learning, growing, and finding bright spots in the scary parts of life. Written with the kind of humor, strength of character, and unwavering self-awareness only someone who has mastered their ego can muster, this memoir reminds us of the life-changing freedom on the other side of acceptance.

s-PECK-tacular

I randomly stumbled upon this book. I don’t know what made me preorder it because I don’t know much about Josh, but I did and WOW! Captivating, shocking, heart-warming and relatable. It’s so incredibly well written that it’s hard to hit pause - even my partner got hooked on it during a road trip. You can’t help but love josh after listening to this, and it leaves you feeling hopeful and inspired to take on your own life. Well worth every penny - even for someone who knows very little about Josh.

I enjoyed every page!

I never watched Drake and Josh. I started following Josh in the Vlog Squad and love his podcast with Joe. This book was entertaining and makes me like Josh even more! Well done, Josh! I am rooting for ya! (P.S. I totally thought you would mention Joe! haha That's funny!)

A side of Josh I would have never know

Overall the book was an easy listen, finished it in a plane ride home haha. Like most I grew up watching Josh. I always wondered what happened to him after “Drake & Josh” and how he ended up with a YouTube career. Two years ago, I discovered him on YouTube and it brought back that “home” feeling when you see a familiar face.
I throughly enjoyed this book and I’m glad Josh decided to release it!!

ADDICTING

I wasn’t exactly sucked in the moment I began this memoir, but it happened before I knew it was happening. Suddenly, the combination of Peck’s genuine performance of his all too real story and the absurd details of his stardom had me physically shaking. I had shivers in my spine at two points! I almost cried (three times!) while listening to this at work. I’ve been looking forward to this memoir since pre-orders started and I’m so glad to have picked it up. Josh Peck is a champion for revealing his dirtiest truths and not trying to veil them with humor. Yes, he’s funny, but aware that trying to be funny to cover the grime wouldn’t work, especially on an audience who can sympathize with many of his experiences. The book’s title can be misleading (I initially thought it was going to be a silly read about his various Tweets, etc.) so I was slammed by the bold-faced events portrayed here. Definitely worth the pick up.

This book was thoroughly enjoyable.

This book had some great stories. Struggles and joy, ups and downs and was very well written. I literally never lost focus throughout the entire book. I was immersed the entire time.

Great writing, and very personal, which made it super relatable. Thanks, Josh. You pulled at all the heart strings.

Also, I didn’t know you had a book until you were on The Genius Life podcast, so I’ll send a thank you to Max as well 😂 looking forward to hearing about your wood ranch adventures, also looking forward to another book someday!

So so so so so good

I didn’t know what to expect, but I am so happy, annoyingly so, that I listened to this book. It’s a true story of triumph over tragedy, even if triumph doesn’t look as one has imagined. Josh delivers his (up to this point) life story in a intimate, endearing way, and I cannot wait to recommend this audiobook to friends and family.

Enthralling narration

Josh’s story caught me off guard. Although I am a lifelong fan I knew very little about his story. It is gripping and powerful. Once you finish this and you are wanting more from Josh head over to his podcast Male Models for your next fix of Joshie.

I really enjoyed this. Josh did a great job narrating. I wish he talked about Drake and Josh more but what he did talk about was interesting and I definitely learned a thing or two from him. definitely recommend

Loved it very much!

Just like a lot of others in my age range (I’m 29), I grew up with Josh on tv. After seeing him on The Morning Toast with Claudia Oshry, I decided that I wanted to know more about the beloved Josh Peck that I grew up with. This book was so real, honest and funny as hell. Him narrating his own book tops it off. He gives such an honest look into what life is really like for actors and actresses and how no matter how many obstacles life throws at you, to just keep pushing through until life opens up to everything you ever wanted. His own personal struggles with weight and how it impacted his life early oh really resonated with me and my own personal medical struggles as a child.

A great perspective of an young actor’s life

I’ve been a fan for a while of Josh, meeting his work in a deeper way on his youtube endeavors. This book brings a refreshing, raw and previously unknown side of the human being behind this career, and its read by the author, which, for me, only highlights the narrative.
