A FAST PACED ANGSTY ROMANCE WITH DRAMA & SECRETS

Reporter and self-professed nomad, Tanner returns to the war torn Middle East after a couple of months off grieving, lost and trying to come to terms with the death of his sidekick and best friend the female Photographer who's been by his side for years and was once his lover too. He's plagued with guilt and memories of their times together, he's mentally not in a good place and is held up in a Hotel with fellow Reporters waiting for any action to start, the buzz to kick in and the adrenaline rush that'll follow. He also has to meet his new Photographer which is eating him up but, on his first night back, he has sex with a beautiful sexy woman called Beaux (aka BJ) - it's wild, it's a crazy one time high octane deal as their meeting was fuelled by anger and lust. He was due to meet the Photographer the next day..... but little did he know that he'd just met her..... and knew her intimately.

So starts a lot of angst as his suspicions, his anger, his resentment, his denial and his negativity grows towards a woman who makes his blood boil and his temper flare because she's feisty, gives as good as she gets, is very secretive and he doesn't trust her. But she's also very sexy, beautiful and talented too not to mention the incredible combustible sexual chemistry between them that's pulling him in and it's making him want much more. However, when their verbal bickering and push/pull relationship is interlaced with heated demanding kisses, things change and, for a short and passion filled time, Tanner knows peace..... but he still doesn't know anything about the mysterious Beaux.

Then comes the tense drama when they accompany a Military Mission into a bombed Village and that's when everything changes, someone's life is held in the balance, a shocking discovery is made and Tanner's forced to walk away from the woman he loves. Unfortunately there's a lot more shocking twists and revelations to come as well as tear-jerking heartbreak and lies as all the pieces are finally uncovered and slot together to reveal the real Beaux.

Worth a credit? A very enjoyable, fast paced and emotionally charged listen that had angst, drama, danger, blood, tears, passion, steam, secrets, shocking revelations, suspense, heartache and a love story that was anything but conventional. Told from Tanner's POV and the storyline of two people who clashed, fought, f'cked, bled, shocked, cried, lost and loved each other was all well narrated. K. Bromberg put a lot into this addictive listen that was, I'm happy to say, very creditworthy.

Not your typical romance

3.5 stars

I love how K Bromberg writes the male POV, so I was really excited to read this book. The premise intrigued me too - foreign war correspondent falling for his photojournalist.

But the first half of the book really dragged for me. I liked getting to know the background behind Tanner's time off from his job and seeing the sparks between him and Beaux. But there was just SO MUCH INFORMATION that I got lost in the words and struggled to connect with the story. But the second half of the book was awesome :) so it made up for it.

I loved Tanner. He's tough and dedicated. And I loved that his first instinct was to protect Beaux. But Beaux was such a mystery, not really divulging much about who she is or was. Once all the puzzle pieces were put back together at the end of the book, finding out more about her was the best part of the story. And made for AN INCREDIBLE ENDING!! One that I did not see coming.

No matter my issues with the pace of this book, there were plenty of feels and lots of emotions to ride through. I enjoyed the sizzle between these two characters, and loved those very hott scenes. And the amount of detail K Bromberg includes about Tanner's job, the environment, expectations, and volatility, etc. is incredible. I'm really glad she took the chance to write this story.

"Whoever said love is like war, easy to begin but hard to end, knew exactly what he was talking about."

PS - the narrator does an incredible job bring the characters to life. loved listening to him!!

Disappointing

I love the Raced series. However the first half of the book was one dimensional and Tanner didn't appeal to me in the same way the other male characters in the series had. The second half was much better and restored my love of the series. I still love Colton and Ryelee.

Never ending love

Again, I am left wanting more. Beautiful love story, as always expected nothing less. The tears I shed made me want to hurry and replace them with a happy ending. There was a time I thought it was going to be a sad ending, but the surprise ending was beautiful. Can't wait for the next story.

Brilliant! Excellent writing and suspense!

If you could sum up Hard Beat in three words, what would they be?

Unexpected twists & Turns!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hard Beat?

Tanner's rooftop setting. It was his way to saying I love you, you're special without actually SAYING it... and she knew.

Which character – as performed by Mason Lloyd – was your favorite?

Tanner for certain. He didn't come across as good when doing Beaux at all... but it's probably because the story was written to focus on Rylee's brother Tanner.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

His dream at the end where it continued further ... I was scared to hope it was REAL and really happening... afraid to be told at the end it was his dream and maybe he'd died. Or taken his life. I was fearful of this because someone's review said the book left her depressed, and that worried me.

Any additional comments?

Brilliantly written for a driven series book. What I'd expected and what I came away with were two different things. Great job!!

A MUST read

This was a beautifully written love story, until it wasn't and I wanted to scream at the author. This book takes you one hell of a heavy rollercoaster ride. Just when you think you have it all figured out BOOM the unexpected happens. A great love story with a strong heroine and heart-stoppingly delicious hero. Once AGAIN, you've created an absolutely HEARTWARMING, HOT story that I completely ADORED. Beaux & Tanner were fire! Mason Lloyd does an amazing job portraying the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them with their emotions, attitude and personality.

Sexy and Gritty

This story had so many great elements: Action, Romance, Steamy Romance, and Angst. We MUST NOT forget the angst. Tanner faces the aftermath of a tragedy just to be thrown headlong into a whirlwind romance with BJ, and too many similarities to the beginning relationship with Stella.
I love listening to Mason Lloyd's narration. He is an excellent choice for action-oacked romances. His Male POV voice is sexy and gritty, perfect for the setting in Hard Bear.

Love in the rough

Tanner has been through a life changing event that leaves him questioning himself. He lost his best friend and photographer and it leaves him wondering what could have been. Newcomer BJ has him irritated but she’s so irresistible but with his confused feelings he wonders if he’s betraying his best friend and erasing her memory. Nothing is as it seems and once everything around him crumbles once again he begins to wonder if fate could be that cruel to him. A sexy suspenseful thrill ride.

Not as good as the previous books in this series.

This was not as good as the previous books in this series. I struggled through the first half before taking a couple weeks break then finally finished it. The last half was much better.
