Publisher's Summary

Stella Ricci is bored. Her overprotective family barely let her out of their sight, despite the fact she’s a grown woman. Yes, she loves her job at her family’s café, and she’s the best barista in the entire Monterey Peninsula, but is that enough? She’s thinking no. But what else can she do?

Enter Carter Abbott. Burnt out after the never-ending grind of selling high-end real estate in Los Angeles, he’s returned home, unsure of what to do next. He needs someplace to crash temporarily until he gets back on his feet.

It’s easy for Stella to suggest Carter move in. Temporarily of course. It’ll give her someone to talk to. The only problem? That one night stand Stella and Carter had about a year ago. They never talked about it. They still don’t really talk about it. Despite the fact that the old chemistry has come back full force. Living together has made that obvious. Should they admit that one night wasn’t enough? Or will dating each other turn into an epic fail? Only one way to find out....

Irritating narration

The female narrator’s voice was super irritating in this story, making a lacklustre story even less enjoyable. I keep reading more in this series, thinking the next one sounds good, even if I didn’t love the one I’m currently reading. Nope; if anything they seem to be going downhill. The story was fine, nothing special, rather bland.

Gets funny

I did not like the female voice, but the story got better and funny towards the end. Just have to get through the annoying breaths.

Carter and Stella

A hot and steamy "second chance romance". This was cute, entertaining, and a little frustrating. Stella and Carter felt their feelings for each other through the majority of the story. Oh, they let their lust drive them together but they fought hard to move forward. I enjoyed their journey. John Lane and Avery Reid were fantastic narrators, I loved listening to them bring these adorable characters to life.

Unbalanced

Stella is such an unappreciative, lying jerk. Spoiled brat is accurate. But one hopes she could grow up a little. We wouldn’t tolerate her behavior in a male character without completely crucifying him. She is definitely NOT “worth the fight”.
John Lane did a great job.

Did not like the narrator voice.

She sounded in pain. Male voice was OK. I usually don't pay much attention to the voice but it made it harder to enjoy the story. No matter what was happening in it, she sounded like trying to go #2 with very little luck. Story like was decent. Best friend's brother hookup gone bad until he moves back to the area and they have to sort it out.

Narrative

Narrator sounds like a porn star.
Couldn’t even get through the book.
So annoying especially when I really like this author

Female narrator is the WORST!

I had to skip several of the female chapters due to the way the narrator constantly pronounced the end of sentences and her breathy/choppy words. I even tried turning down the volume to tune it out. Just read the physical book to avoid such terrible narration or skip to a different book in the series.

I have to agree with the other reviewer- Stella became annoying in certain instances. But the story was otherwise good. Im enjoying this series.

Good story, scummy heroine.

Right off the bat I liked the book. I liked the truth in the actions & repercussions of a one night stand. I like the CA setting and I like the dynamics of the girl group & how we plod through all their romances one by one in this series. Most are fun and sexy...some have been less than original but still pretty good. This book was rather original yet still reflected the environment from the series. At first I really like Stella's character, she was strong, independent, modern ... her own person. But then she turned out to be a low life... how disappointing.

Still all in all the book is enjoyable.

The male narration was good. The female narrator over acts her breathy super emotions as usual < 🙄 >

nod to italians...interresting

I really liked this couple and identified with most of their issues, however, I kept thinking he would get in on the remodel and he doesn't...there could have been more humor in her family as well.

good story but..

it's a little silly how the main characters were so fearful their friends would be upset if they knew what was going on -- it can be believable with some people & some families but these people all liked each other. other than that it was great & also great steamy scenes

Another insecure woman

Cute couple, fake troubles, big family dramas, girlfriends galore. But only read this book if you have a high tolerance to read about yet another insecure woman.
