À propos de cet audio

A workplace rivalry. An isolated campus. A tragic death.

Never make a major life decision in the wake of emotional turmoil. Cassie Romano learned this the hard way, leaving sunny San Diego for a teaching position at a private school in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York after a painful break-up left her heart-broken and in need of a change. It all seemed so perfect in June when she came to interview. But now it’s December, and she’s stranded on top of a mountain surrounded by snow, ice, and acres of wilderness, lonelier than ever and bored out of her mind.

When a fellow teacher turns up dead and Cassie receives a cryptic letter from her a few days later, it’s clear to Cassie that something strange is going on at Falcon Ridge Academy. Everyone seems to be writing the death off as a tragic accident, but she’s not so sure.

Cassie has secrets of her own, though, so she’s initially reluctant to get involved. Torn between the urge to protect herself and the desire to investigate further, she decides on the latter.

And the consequences could be deadly.

Unfortunately the narrator makes it very difficult to listen to this book. Pushing through despite this, the character Miles appears out of nowhere and basically gives the rest of the plot away.
I think from other reviews her other books may be better. Good idea on the basic premise but characters are not very realistic. Too easy to guess the next moments

I can’t tell if the story really is that bad and felt as if reading a teenage girls diary or if the narrator was so bad that it just made it feel like that.

Hard listen

Bonnie Traymore offers a reasonable distraction for a couple of snowy afternoons. Teacher 'Cassie Romano' - attempting to restart her life - finds herself in a tangled web of lies, duplicity, financial crimes, and murder at an elite private school in upstate New York. The story is told through multiple points of view with everyone harboring secrets. I thought the sexual desperation in the Cassie character was overdone and the marital bed habits of sketchy school administrator 'Miles' had nothing to do with the plot. Traymore isn't graphic by any means.. but bafflingly adds way too much sex to the tale for my tastes (I'm not a prude, but if you're going to include it so liberally, the sex has to advance plot or character development, imo). The plot is sufficiently twisty-turny to maintain interest and the exposition of character psychology/motivations makes them relatable, but Traymore's deficiencies are on full display, too.

As to presentation: Reader Robin McAlpine is a capable, professional reader (creditable diction, timbre, cadence, and tone).. but her voice-acting range is limited. It's somewhat difficult to know when the POV shifts - every character sounds the same. Pathways Publishing Inc. didn't completely drop the ball, but should have enlisted more than one reader - or a more talented voice-actor - for this one.

Altogether, 'Head Case' rates 6 stars out of 10. It was a fair 'Plus' option, but spend your Credit on something else if they ask for one.

Passable Book

Very flat not much emotion put into the reading. Using one reader for every character was not a good move in this case. The story itself was boring not a real thrill not much suspense you figured out the story before it even ended. Not a favourite for me.

It’s a NO for me
