Story
From the internationally best-selling author of the Sword of Truth series comes a new Richard and Kahlan novella. "They are the monsters under the bed when you are little, the shape just caught out of the corner of your eye when you thought you were alone, the shadow of something in a dark corner that surprises you and then isn't there. They stop you dead with a knot of unexpected terror in the pit of your stomach. I think that the star shift has brought us closer to their realm so that they now have the power to step into our world and hurt us."

"Three knives were buried up to their brass cross guards in the man's chest. Richard recognized the knife handles. All three were the style carried by the men of the First File. He looked from those blades that should have killed the big man, up to his face. That was when he realized the true horror of the situation, and the reason for the unbearable stench of death." Narrated with a mouthful of black ice
I have loved Terry Goodkind since I bought Wizards First Rule when it first came out. Christina Traister’s narration of his latest book makes me cringe as she destroys the characters I have followed for years. Nicci sounds like a bitter, stuck up, child that needs a good spanking, maybe that would have worked to portray her character prior to Faith of the Fallen, but not over 10 books of growth later! And Nathan, the smart, cunning, adventurous ancestor of Richard Rahl sounds like he’s suffering from the worst fit of depression possible. Traister pauses where there should be no pause, and her men sound like they are either slow and stupid, or constipated. When Utros’s lovers speak seductively to him, she makes them sound fake, as if they are trying to deceive him.
I will have to buy this book and read it twice. Once just to undo the damage of listening to this version of it, and a second time so I can actually enjoy Goodkind’s work!
My recommendation, don’t torture yourself with this narration. Christina Traister doesn’t understand the characters.

Great story! Terrible narration…
I have listened to dozens and dozens of audiobooks and Christina Traister is by far the worst I’ve ever heard. The reading was as if she was reading it for the first time, with hesitations all over the place, unlike a professional narrator. But the worst part was her attempts at doing male voices. She sounded like a 10-year-old boy who is trying to sound (mockingly) like a tough guy.
If there are going to be more stories in the series, please get somebody better!

Audible ruined the series with change of narrators
Very disappointing, not only have I had to adjust to 2 different narrators, which were nothing compared to Tom (first book); now a women's voice! I cant even get into the story.... I find myself thinking of other things and cant focus. This is the worst yet! Such a waste, why would they do this to the series? Such disrespect to the author and his remarkable story. I wont continue the series, it's that bad. If they will redo the audibles correctly, like they should have done, then I will purchase and listen.

A great adventure
The Nicci chronicles is a worthy addition to the Goodkind epic masterpiece. However the centuries old Wizards are disappointing. Even Nathan Rahl shows little ingenuity. First Wizard Zeddicus Zu'ul Zorander would have devastated these antagonists.
